Kayce Dutton will have another familiar face riding into Marshals Season 2. Jefferson White is officially returning as Yellowstone fan favorite Jimmy Hurdstrom in a recurring role, reuniting him with Luke Grimes after Jimmy’s long journey from wayward ranch hand to bona fide cowboy. CBS officially confirmed White’s return ahead of the new season.
White’s comeback carries more heft than a drive-by cameo. Jimmy began Yellowstone as a troubled young man handed an unlikely second chance by John Dutton, then gradually became one of Taylor Sheridan’s most endearing redemption stories. CBS now describes him as a “resilient, proud cowboy,” which is quite the promotion from the hapless ranch novice viewers first met. White sounds equally ready to saddle up again. “Jimmy and I have been through a lot together and I can’t wait to see what’s next for us,” he said, while praising the Marshals cast and crew.
And Jimmy is hardly the only piece of Yellowstone DNA returning to Kayce’s orbit.
Jimmy Makes Marshals Feel More Like Yellowstone
Jefferson White as Jimmy in Yellowstone | Credits: Paramount NetworkJimmy’s appearance strengthens a connection that Marshals has never tried to hide. Luke Grimes already leads the series as Kayce, while Brecken Merrill returns as Tate Dutton, Gil Birmingham as Thomas Rainwater, and Mo Brings Plenty as Mo. CBS’s current Season 2 cast also includes Logan Marshall-Green, Arielle Kebbel, Ash Santos, Tatanka Means, and Jefferson White. Rotten Tomatoes’ current cast listing confirms the ensemble.
Yet Jimmy offers something different from those continuing characters. His story became inseparable from the ranch itself, especially after his transformation at the Four Sixes. Putting him beside Kayce creates a direct bridge to the mothership without dragging Marshals backward into another Dutton Ranch drama. The reunion also arrives after Marshals proved it could survive beyond Yellowstone’s enormous shadow. Season 1 averaged 19.3 million viewers in CBS’s L+35 multiplatform measurement, making Marshals the season’s No. 1 broadcast series (per Paramount+).
That success makes Jimmy’s return feel like reinforcement rather than a nostalgia crutch.
Kayce’s Yellowstone Stuntman Is Back Too
Kayce Dutton in the show | Credits: ParamountThe newest reunion happens behind the camera, and it should make Season 2 considerably rougher on Kayce. Jordan Warrack, Luke Grimes‘ original Yellowstone stuntman, is officially back doubling Kayce in Marshals. Warrack joined Yellowstone in Season 2 as an assistant stunt coordinator before eventually becoming stunt coordinator for its final season. He missed Marshals Season 1 because he was coordinating all nine episodes of Dutton Ranch (via TV Insider). Grimes says Warrack’s return has already expanded what the show can attempt.
He told TV Insider, praising Warrack’s lifelong rodeo experience:
We’re actually able to do a lot more stuff with the stunts this year than we were able to Season 1.
Grimes readily admits there are limits to cowboy authenticity he cannot bluff his way through: Kayce is roping people, bulls, and plenty else this season, and the actor jokes that mastering those skills without starting young would be “completely impossible.” The official Season 2 story explains why that extra horsepower is useful. Tate has been taken hostage, sending Kayce rogue while the Marshals uncover a criminal operation connected to the East Camp land grab. CBS promises a violent showdown that puts everything Kayce values at risk.
Meanwhile, Cal continues fighting cancer while sharing leadership responsibilities with Andrea, and Rainwater faces younger Native leaders challenging his relevance on Broken Rock. Jimmy’s return therefore isn’t the only homecoming. Between White stepping back into his boots and Warrack once again taking Kayce’s hardest falls, Marshals Season 2 is quietly rebuilding a chunk of the team that helped make Yellowstone feel so tactile.
