Eminem collaborating with Kid Rock was always going to raise eyebrows. One has publicly denounced the US President Donald Trump; the other is among his most recognizable celebrity supporters. Now, their upcoming track “7 Sins” has people asking whether Slim Shady’s political convictions come with an exception for an old friend. The pro-MAGA artist’s explanation is that their friendship has survived disagreements all along. He said so in the album’s foreword.
What is the DCU connection, you ask? It comes through James Gunn’s music selections for Superman. The track “Bawitdaba” appears in the Green Lantern section of the official character playlist (via Spotify). It was, however, not part of the actual soundtrack. It is easy to observe that it is built around Guy Gardner’s personality.

“7 Sins”, which comes out on October 17, is listed on the forthcoming Christian album, Halfway 2 Jesus. The announcement prompted skepticism about whether his appearance was real, but his involvement has been confirmed. This is an announced collaboration, so judging the song’s message from its feature credit alone would be premature.
Kid Rock has, however, explained what he wants the pairing to represent. In an excerpt from the album’s foreword, he writes (via Complex):
I’m proud of the guests who joined me, especially my old friend Eminem. His verse speaks to something we’ve talked about and that really needs to be heard: we differ politically and on other things, but we’ve stayed friends through it all.We hope that sets an example for people who’ve lost friends or stopped talking to family because they think differently.
That also leaves an important distinction: this is Rock’s account of what the collaboration means. Until we hear the verse, we cannot know how the disagreements are addressed, or whether they are addressed directly at all.
Some Want Him Canceled, But Slim Shady’s Never Needed Their Approval
Eminem has never cared what people, even his fans, think of him | Credits: Eminem/InstagramThe reaction includes calls to stop supporting Slim Shady, alongside responses arguing that anyone expecting to cancel him has picked an unlikely target. Now you know the usage of the word “kryptonite” in the title of this article. He became a grandpa last year, and is officially too old to care. His reputation was built on saying things people wanted him to stop saying. Another round of outrage is hardly unfamiliar territory. Some expressed outrage, dismay, or disbelief at the news. Some were resigned, arguing the rapper has never cared what the world thinks of him. Some even expressed excitement.
This Eminem Kid Rock song is not real right? I just assumed this has to be some sort of joke.
— Scru🇳🇬 (@scrufacejean) October 2, 2026Eminem and Kid Rock are grown adults, they are not childish idiots who disown each other because of different views
I am excited about the new song and if you have a problem with that, piss off!
Marshall Mathers’s history of surviving controversy does not settle the argument, though. Commercial resilience tells us whether criticism damages a career. It does not tell us whether the criticism has merit.
The more interesting question is what the rapper contributes to “7 Sins.” Does his verse acknowledge the disagreement that makes this pairing contentious, as was hinted at? Or will the explanation outside the song do more work than anything we actually hear?
For now, we have a straightforward reason for the reunion: their friendship has outlasted their political differences. That may be enough for the two men making the record. Whether it is enough for the people listening remains an open question. Whatever your political inclination may be, you’ve got to admire Slim Shady for his loyalty toward his friends.
Does this collaboration change how you see Slim Shady, or can friendship come before politics? Let us know in the comments.
