Gears of War: E-Day comes out next week, and if you’re planning on playing multiplayer, you’ll need the right class. The game has four different classes: Assault, Breacher, Marksman, and Medic. Each class fills a different role in Horde Siege, and you’ll have to decide which class you play depending on what you want to bring to the team.
— Gears of War (@GearsofWar) September 30, 2026The Horde Siege mode will throw a ton of different enemies at you, and you have to understand what each class brings to the plate. If you don’t know what to play yet in the latest entry of The Coalition’s franchise, here is a breakdown of all the classes in Gears of War: E-Day and which one you should play.

4. Marksman
Role: Long-range damage dealer
Difficulty: High
Key ability: Pulse Drone
Best for: Accurate players, long-range specialists, and experienced Gears players.
Marksman is the most specialized class in Gears of War: E-Day. You sacrifice a lot of flexibility for good ranged damage, with the Longshot being your main weapon.
The good thing about the Marksman class is that you can eliminate enemies from a safe distance and give your teammates some cover fire. The Pulse Drone is a great tool to identify and mark Locust targets for the squad.
If you have good aim, the damage potential is very high for this class. However, it’s not very forgiving. You lose out on a lot of damage if you miss shots, and the Longshot is very clunky when it comes to reloading. And like all ranged classes, you need to keep an eye on your positioning as well.
The Marksman can arguably rival or surpass the other classes in specific encounters. But it’s not the greatest class overall, so it lands at the bottom of the list.
4. Breacher
Role: Close-range fighter
Difficulty: Moderate to high
Key ability: Adrenaline Injector
Best for: Aggressive players, frontliners, and experienced Gears fans.
Breacher is the class for players who want to get close to the enemy and stay in the middle of the action. This class is aggressive, focused on close-range combat, and has the tools to thrive in the hottest of fights.
The Adrenaline Injector restores your health and reduces incoming damage, which will allow you to take risks others cannot. You can also use the Perfect Reloads to build for close-to-mid-range fights, to be able to constantly push forward.
The issue is that Breacher is also pretty tough to execute. You’ll need to understand cover, shooting angles, enemy behavior, and when to retreat. You can’t play too cautiously because it defeats the class’s purpose, but you also can’t be too aggressive.
The Breacher class has the potential to be the best class, but it’s not for everyone. And that’s why it doesn’t make the top 2.
2. Medic
Role: Healing and revival specialist
Difficulty: Moderate
Key ability: Stim Vaporizer
Best for: Team players, coordinated squads, and players who enjoy keeping teammates alive.
The Medic class is in a weird place in Gears of War: E-Day. Like other games, its primary purpose is keeping the squad alive, but you’ll always need one for the Horde Siege missions, which makes the role much more valuable.
You can heal and revive teammates even in situations where your team needs support from a distance. The Stim Vaporizer can create a healing area and help revive downed squad members, which gives the Medic a ton of utility in every fight. And on the offensive side, you still have good weapons like the Gut Puncher to keep yourself alive.
Medic does require better team awareness than Assault. A good Medic needs to recognize when a teammate is in trouble, stay close enough to provide support, and avoid chasing kills. When played correctly, you can be the backbone of your squad.
1. Assault
Role: Flexible damage dealer
Difficulty: Beginner-friendly
Key ability: Sonic Disruptor
Best for: Beginners, flexible players, and anyone who wants a reliable all-rounder.
Assault is the best class because of its mixture of damage, flexibility, and accessibility. It does well in most situations rather than specializing in one particular type of fight.
You can stun enemies with the Sonic Disruptor to create openings for yourself and your team. The Lancer Mk1 has great handling, and it makes the Assault class simple and easy but also strong. You’ll need this flexibility in the Horde Siege mode, where you’ll face a mix of all types of enemies.
Which Gears of War: E-Day Class Should You Choose?
Image Credit: The CoalitionThe four classes in Gears of War: E-Day represent different roles on a team, so the best choice ultimately depends on how you want to contribute to a squad.
Assault is the easiest recommendation for newcomers because it’s simple and strong. Every team needs a Medic, especially if you’re playing with friends and can coordinate the healing and revival abilities.
Marksman is only good if you want a more aim-heavy and position-heavy playstyle. There’s good potential for damage, but mistakes are more costly than they are with a general-purpose class. As for the Breacher, it’s for players who want to take the fight directly to the enemy and are ready for the risks that come with being aggressive.
