FROM delivered a gut-wrenching Season 4 Episode 2 with the reveal of Jim’s gruesome death. In a desperate attempt for answers, Jim’s son Ethan Matthews leaves for the RV they arrived in to radio a message to Thomas. Upon arriving, he is greeted by what appears to be the spirit of Jim, who wants to deliver a very important message.
Jim urges Ethan to find the Lake of Tears, a place that Ethan dreamt of in FROM Season 1 Episode 2. The Lake of Tears is a mysterious location in FROM that accompanies his visions of sketches of his family. Ethan has often prophesied pivotal moments from the show that have appeared in horrific ways that are often inexplicable. The Matthews each have significant connections to the mysterious town they are all trapped in.

Supernatural Connections in the Matthews Family Explained
FROM Season 4 Episode 2 was a bizarre reveal of multiple connections that each Matthews family member has to the unknown forces that torture them. With Jim’s death arriving with a “KNOWLEDGE COMES AT A COST” warning, the episode confirms that Tabitha and Jade have repeatedly attempted to save the town across centuries.
Tabitha’s connection to the town drew her back in, but the extent to which she can help the children and, by extension, the trapped folks remains to be seen. Meanwhile, Julie has abilities that allow her to transcend time by walking into the ruins in the woods. Episode 2 revealed a frightening time paradox moment where she was almost killed by going back to the events that took place at the start of FROM Season 1. Will these time-travelling powers make her the “Storywalker” she aims to be?
Ethan’s escape into the woods adds to the lore of the Matthews family being tied to the town’s unknown forces, allowing him to see his father from beyond death. His descriptions of massive spiders in his vision almost came to fruition when giant cobwebs were discovered deep in the woods.
All together, the Matthews family might be the only people capable of reversing this nightmare as the creatures in FROM continue to tear them apart.
FROM Delivers the Most Sinister Episode Yet
A still from FROM | Credit: MGM+FROM Season 4 Episode 2 started out in the most horrific way possible, all tied to the arrival of Sophia (The Man in Yellow). In a moment of misdirection, the kids stumbled into a traumatic experience in the barn. Seeing their father hung upside down with his insides turned out was the most devious way the town has inflicted its torture on the folks.
Devilish is the best way to describe this, given the religious iconography that Season 4 of FROM is using to turn Christianity into a playground of evil. Sophia’s presence as a devout Catholic continues to mock the very Bible, and the dead ram inside the bag is a direct reference to the devil himself.
Playing upon fear is a signature FROM trick used to intensify the claustrophobia inside the town, and now people’s hope dwindles further. Boyd appears to be broken psychologically in his attempt to hold things together, pushing himself further into morally gray territory.
FROM will give us more of the evil forces in the next episode, but we are as pessimistic as the characters when it comes to having hope for anything good to happen.
