Ottawa Charge set to open 2024-25 season on road against Montreal Victoire

The Ottawa Charge has released its 2024-25 season schedule and, like with most any infant, the biggest difference is how much it’s grown from a year ago.

Yes, the league has bumped up the number of games each team plays, from 24 to 30, in its second season.

The Charge debuts with a Nov. 30 visit to play Montreal Victoire at Place Bell, then returns to Ottawa for its first home game, Tuesday, Dec. 3 at TD Place.

Interestingly, two of Ottawa’s 15 home games have a “To Be Announced” venue and time.

Speculate away that the Dec. 6 game against Montreal and the Feb. 16 tilt against Toronto will be played at Canadian Tire Centre — Minnesota, New York, Montreal and Toronto either play, have played or will play at NHL rinks — but the PWHL isn’t expected to announce its “neutral site games” for a few weeks.

But the home address for the Charge will remain on Bank Street.

“Fans have been asking about the schedule and we’re excited that it’s finally here,” Charge GM Mike Hirshfeld said. “We had the best fans in the league last year and it will be a blast to play in front of a packed house again this season.”

Other notables about the schedule are three international breaks — for a week in December and February and three weeks in April for the International Ice Hockey (IIHF) women’s world championship.

Because the IIHF world junior hockey championship is in Ottawa, the Charge will be on the road for five straight games from  Dec. 17 to Jan. 7.

The Charge will then play five straight home games from Feb. 13 to Feb. 26.

Oh, and if you’re looking for something different to do on New Year’s Eve, the Charge as date with the Toronto Sceptres on Dec. 31 at 7 p.m.

“I’m beyond excited to learn about the schedule release,” said Rebecca Leslie, an Ottawa native who signed with her hometown team as a free agent after playing for Toronto in Year 1. “Getting a chance to play in front of friends and family is a dream come true. I can’t wait for our team to bring the energy back to TD Place.

“I felt it first-hand last season with Toronto. The fans have been incredible here since I joined the league. As a new member of the team, I’ve been welcomed with open arms here and it’s going to be sweet to play our first home game against Toronto.”

The Charge also wraps up its regular season on May 3 in Toronto.
