One Piece: Every Conqueror’s Haki User in Marineford Who Didn’t Use It

In the One Piece world, some of the strongest characters have the rare power to knock out weaker enemies with nothing but their will. But during the Marineford War, several confirmed Conqueror’s Haki users never showed that ability.

Marineford was already packed with powerful fighters, yet these seven kept their Conqueror’s Haki out of the battle. Looking back at the war with everything revealed in later arcs makes their restraint even more interesting.

1 Whitebeard Could Not Fully Unleash His Conqueror’s Haki

Whitebeard was already in poor health when he arrived at Marineford. In Chapter 564, he showed just how much power he still had by shaking Marineford with his Gura Gura no Mi. However, he never gave the battlefield the huge Conqueror’s Haki display fans might expect from someone of his level.

Just as Ace’s execution was about to begin, Whitebeard suddenly collapsed because of his illness, leaving Luffy to unleash his own Conqueror’s Haki instead. Whitebeard kept relying on his Devil Fruit, strength, and Armament Haki as the war pushed him closer to death.

2 Ace Had Conqueror’s Haki But Never Used It at Marineford

Ace was a confirmed user of Conqueror’s Haki, but Marineford never showed him using the ability. This is something that is easy to miss due to the fact that Ace’s Haki abilities were shown only in his later childhood flashbacks when he used it subconsciously to knock out some Bluejam pirates.

For most of the time, Ace was chained down to the execution platform in Marineford. After release, he was exhausted and focused entirely on protecting Luffy and escaping alongside his crew, while relying only on his Mera Mera no Mi powers. Ace’s Conqueror’s Haki remaining unused at Marineford fits the ultimate tragedy of his story: he never got the chance to show everything he had.

3 Garp Was Under Orders to Not Participate and Withheld His Haki

Garp had perhaps the hardest emotional burden of anyone at Marineford. He was stationed near the execution platform as a final barrier, but he was clearly struggling with his duty as a Marine and his love for Ace and Luffy. Later revelations confirmed that Garp possesses Conqueror’s Haki, including the advanced form he displayed during the Hachinosu battle.

Yet Marineford never showed him using it. When Luffy rushed the scaffold in Chapter 571, Garp confronted him but ultimately allowed his grandson to get past him. His restraint feels less like a lack of power and more like a man who simply could not bring himself to fight his family at full strength.

4 Boa Hancock Had No Need to Use Conqueror’s Haki

Boa Hancock entered Marineford with one clear priority: helping Luffy. She used her position as a Warlord to move around the battlefield while attacking Marines, Pacifistas, and anyone who tried to stop her from helping him.

She was already extremely dangerous with her Devil Fruit without needing a large Conqueror’s Haki burst. Her actions in the Marineford Arc show that she was fighting with a specific goal rather than trying to dominate the entire battlefield.

5 Doflamingo Treated Marineford Like a Game and Withheld His Haki

Doflamingo was one of the strangest people at Marineford because he seemed to be enjoying the chaos more than anything else. He had no emotional connection to Ace’s rescue or Whitebeard’s downfall. He simply watched the war unfold and joined the action whenever it entertained him.

That attitude offers a possible reason why he never revealed his Conqueror’s Haki. His later fight with Luffy in Dressrosa showed that he had the ability, but Marineford was not his personal battle. He could simply sit back, laugh at the madness, and save his strongest cards for another day.

6 Sengoku Relied on Strategy and Devil Fruit Power Over Haki

Sengoku was not just another fighter at Marineford. As Fleet Admiral, he was responsible for the entire Marine operation. His main job was to control the war and make sure Ace’s execution went ahead.

When he finally entered the action in Chapter 571, the story immediately focused on his Mythical Zoan power. He transformed into his giant Buddha form and unleashed a massive shockwave toward the execution platform. That choice shows how Oda presented Sengoku at the time. Rather than showing Conqueror’s Haki, the story made his Devil Fruit and command over the battlefield his defining weapons.

7 Shanks Ended the War Without Using Conqueror’s Haki

Shanks arrived at Marineford after the main battle had already taken a terrible toll. He had also intercepted Kaido before reaching the war, making his sudden appearance at the battlefield even more striking.

Yet Shanks did not need to release his Conqueror’s Haki to stop the fighting. His words were enough. He made it clear that anyone who wanted to continue the war would have to fight the Red Hair Pirates, and Sengoku eventually agreed to end the battle. That moment perfectly fits Shanks. He did not need a massive Haki display because his reputation alone was powerful enough to silence the battlefield.
