In One Piece, some stories are simply too big for a few manga panels. The God Valley Incident is one of them. After years of mystery, fans will finally get to see the legendary event involving Rocks D. Xebec, Gol D. Roger, and Monkey D. Garp on the big screen in 2027.
However, the announcement of ONE PIECE FILM GOD VALLEY is exciting for another reason. The movie could mark the first time the franchise takes a purely canon event from the manga and turns it into a full theatrical story. If that happens, it could also signal a new direction for One Piece.
Spoiler Alert !!!
This section contains some spoilers from One Piece manga.
God Valley Could End One Piece‘s Old Movie Formula
The God Valley Incident happened 38 years before the present-day events. It brought together Rocks D. Xebec and the Rocks Pirates, Gol D. Roger, Monkey D. Garp, and the World Government. For years, fans only knew pieces of what happened there. The manga finally started showing the truth during the Elbaf flashback.

Rocks, Roger, and Garp were all caught in the same massive conflict, while the World Government was also hiding important parts of what happened.
Now, the story is getting a movie – ONE PIECE FILM GOD VALLEY, scheduled to be released in 2027. Unlike most previous One Piece movies, this one is expected to focus on an event that is already part of the manga’s main story. That is a big change for the franchise. Previous One Piece movies have mostly shown non-canon side stories with some canon elements woven into them. God Valley could be the first time a major canon event is expected to be turned into a full theatrical story.

Also with the movie, instead of stretching the battle across several weekly episodes, the filmmakers can focus on the scale of the incident and give major moments the animation they deserve. If this movie works, other important canon events could eventually receive the same treatment.
2027 Is Bringing Two Major One Piece Projects
The God Valley movie is only one part of the huge One Piece plans for 2027. WIT Studio’s THE ONE PIECE is also scheduled to premiere worldwide on Netflix in February 2027.
The remake will start from the beginning of Luffy‘s adventure instead of continuing from the current anime. It will begin with the East Blue Saga and give the story a fresh visual style and a more controlled pace. That could solve one of the biggest problems with the original anime.
It also gives new viewers a much easier way to enter the franchise. Instead of facing thousands of episodes, they can start with a new version that is built for modern audiences. At the same time, the original anime is moving forward with the Elbaf Arc and the Final Saga. This means fans will have two very different One Piece experiences at once.
And 2027 will not be the end of these new plans. ONE PIECE FILM BAAD has already been announced for 2029. Almost nothing is known about it yet, but the movie will arrive around the anime’s 30th anniversary.
For a series that has been running since 1999, that is a major change. One Piece is no longer relying on just one weekly anime to tell its story. With the God Valley movie, Wit Studio’s remake, the ongoing Elbaf adaptation, and BAAD, the franchise is building a much bigger future.
