Jujutsu Kaisen Officially Forbids Its Strongest Technique That Defeated Gojo Satoru

There is something almost cruelly ironic about the Gojo Clan banning the very technique that helped bring down Satoru Gojo. In Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, the Ten Shadows Technique is officially identified as a Zenin Clan inheritance and a forbidden technique within the Gojo Clan. The revelation lands differently once its history is remembered. The Gojo and Zenin clans were two of the Big Three, and their rivalry once culminated in a legendary battle between a Six Eyes and Limitless user and a Ten Shadows user, ending with both clan heads dead.

Generations later, Megumi Fushiguro inherited that same Zenin technique. Then Sukuna took it, weaponized Mahoraga, and ultimately used its adaptation as the blueprint for bypassing Gojo’s Infinity. Now, 68 years after the Culling Game, Modulo reveals that the technique has become something the Gojo Clan wants restricted.

The Ten Shadows was never just another cursed technique. It was one of the Zenin Clan’s most important inherited assets, capable of summoning shikigami through shadows and historically powerful enough to stand opposite the Gojo Clan’s Limitless and Six Eyes. Satoru himself explained that the heads of the two clans had once fought to the death, with the Ten Shadows user and Six Eyes user killing each other.

That old rivalry became strangely personal through Megumi. Despite his Zenin heritage, Megumi was taken under Gojo’s protection, creating a relationship that blurred the boundaries between two families that had spent generations on opposite sides. Then came Sukuna.

After taking Megumi’s body, Sukuna turned the Zenin inheritance into a weapon capable of challenging the strongest sorcerer alive. Mahoraga’s ability to adapt to phenomena became the critical piece of Sukuna’s strategy against Infinity. In the final stages of their battle, Sukuna copied the logic of Mahoraga’s adaptation to develop the slash that killed Gojo.

The Zenin Clan itself did not survive long enough to enjoy that legacy. Maki’s massacre of the clan effectively destroyed the family, and the Zenin name was subsequently removed from the old Big Three structure. That makes Modulo‘s revelation particularly fascinating. The technique survives even after the clan that owned it collapses. But decades later, it is no longer treated as a proud inheritance inside the Gojo Clan. It has become forbidden.

Gojo’s Fate Explains Why the Technique Was Too Dangerous to Keep

Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo takes place in 2086, 68 years after the Culling Game, in a world where the old jujutsu order has been radically transformed. Chapter 16 directly states that Ten Shadows is a Zenin Clan inheritance and that the Gojo Clan has designated it as forbidden. The manga does not explicitly say, “The Gojo Clan banned it because Mahoraga killed Satoru.” That would be an overstatement. But the historical irony is impossible to miss.

Sukuna’s use of Megumi’s Ten Shadows made Mahoraga central to Gojo’s defeat. Mahoraga adapted to Infinity, forcing Gojo into a battle where even his seemingly untouchable defense could eventually be overcome. Sukuna then used that adaptation as a model for his fatal world-cutting attack.

And yet the technique has not vanished. Yuka Okkotsu, the granddaughter of Yuta Okkotsu and Maki Zenin, inherits Ten Shadows despite belonging to the Gojo Clan. The restriction is therefore not a complete erasure: Yuka is permitted to draw upon certain shikigami abilities without freely using the technique’s full summoning system. Mahoraga remains the terrifying exception she eventually unleashes.

That detail makes Yuka the living contradiction at the heart of the rule. She carries the Zenin Clan’s most infamous inheritance inside the family that now forbids it. The symbolism is almost too perfect: the technique that once represented Zenin power became the weapon through which Sukuna defeated Gojo, the Zenin Clan disappeared, and decades later the Gojo Clan still treats Ten Shadows as something dangerous enough to control.

What began as a rivalry between two ancient houses has survived in a completely different form. The names have changed. The world has changed. But the shadow of that old battle is still there.
