However, when Smith got to tell his version of the story, he made the clarification that he tried to borrow money from strangers but his wife stopped him.

When Jada Pinkett Smith appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! in 2017, the host recalled one story that her husband Will Smith told on the show. Kimmel shared that the Bad Boys actor once borrowed $10 from a passerby to pay for gas after he forgot his wallet. Jada Smith responded that he did this all the time.
She then went on to narrate another story where Smith found himself without his wallet and decided to ask a random stranger for money. Surprisingly, the money was for one of their own products, a water company that launched in Whole Foods that day. According to Jada, he asked a random woman at the store for a dollar.
She shared that Smith often did it to embarrass her. She further recalled how she told the woman not to give him money and told her to ask the Wild Wild West star for some money. She shared on Jimmy Kimmel Live!:
According to Jada Smith’s conclusion to the story, Smith ended up borrowing the money from the woman. Jimmy Kimmel jokingly commented that she was married to “the world’s most famous panhandler”, to which she seemed to agree.

Will Smith Shared His Side Of The Story
Will Smith appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! later that year and took the opportunity to clarify his side. So, did he try to borrow money from a stranger? Yes. Did he actually borrow the money? No. Smith shared that it was the launch day of Just Water, the company founded by Jaden Smith with the help of his parents.
He revealed that he wanted to see the first pallet coming into the store. Smith admitted that he proposed asking a passerby for a few dollars. However, his wife did not allow him to borrow the money despite his claims that people would find it fun to say that “Will and Jada borrowed $2” from them. Jada Smith didn’t find it funny and she made him walk back to go and get the money.
He further shared that the walk was worth it as he was parched and the water tasted so good. He didn’t seem to reject his wife’s claim that he did it frequently just to embarrass her, which might be the case.
