Batman Ninja vs Yakuza League

SUMMARY

  • Batman Ninja vs Yakuza League just released its new trailer and fans have lost hope.
  • The plot within the 1 and a half minute trailer sounds confusing and the animation is jarring.
  • Batman Ninja vs Yakuza League won't be the first DC anime adaptation to disappoint.

Batman Ninja vs Yakuza League is one of the most random iterations of the DC heroes and the absurdity of it doesn’t stop at the concept. In the most recent trailer for Batman Ninja vs Yakuza League, a lot of concerning details made fans feel more concerned about the upcoming movie than excited. The first movie of the series, Batman Ninja, didn’t do very well for itself by no surprise and Batman Ninja vs Yakuza League seems to be even less promising. It seems the team behind it has taken up more than they can handle.

Despite being so original in its concept and the visualization of the DC heroes, Batman Ninja vs Yakuza League is going to be a recipe for disaster if it is truly nothing but a cheap cash grab from the pockets of DC fans. Even the most brain-rot DC fans or Zack Synder, who made arguably the worst version of Batman, would never want to see this version come to life.

The Trailer of Batman Ninja vs Yakuza League Exposed Its Bad Side Already

The Batman Ninja vs. Yakuza League trailer jumps or rather skydives straight into a visually jarring and chaotic sequence, as we witness Yakuza members literally raining from the sky over Gotham City, called a “Yakuza-storm.” Even more bizarre, the cursed and disturbed city of Gotham has a new neighbour, the entire island of Japan, mysteriously floating above it. Why is Japan even involved in the plot? It seems like a clash between science fiction and thriller that doesn’t need to be there.

The most jarring part of the trailer is the animation. While they attempt to blend modern CGI tech with very traditional Japanese artwork as their inspiration, it doesn’t work in their favour. It’s slow and unnerving. Some fans, however, enjoy the creative approach and new visual style. It is up to subjective taste in a way but it doesn’t exactly scream superhero to anyone.

Still, the sudden appearance of a floating Japan above Gotham City doesn’t seem to have any clear setup or logic. How would Japan tie into the world of Batman and why exactly are Yakuza falling from the sky, seemingly also with their hands tied? From the previous film’s reception, it doesn’t bring hope that Batman Ninja vs. Yakuza League will also explain their plot. On a positive note, the vibrant colors make it a visual feast for sure but it depends if the animation style grows on you or not.

The 2018 film, Batman Ninja, was not what people expected and it isn’t the first time anime fans were disappointed by a DC anime adaptation. Suicide Squad Isekai was equally chaotic and underwhelming, especially disappointing with how much potential for creativity anime brings. Batman Ninja vs Yakuza League looks like it’s heading down the same broken path.

Maybe Batman Ninja vs Yakuza League will be so bizarre and bad that it’s good. At the least Japanese voice cast is promising with Yuki Kaji, Daisuke Ono and Akira Ishida on their list. It will certainly be an insane ride and a new experience.

Batman Ninja vs Yakuza League is set to release in 2025.
