In Naruto, some of the most dangerous Kekkei Genkai are obvious: Wood Release can create forests, Lava Release can melt through defenses, and Ice Release can turn the battlefield into a frozen trap. But one Kage had an ability that could have been just as valuable outside combat.
Rasa, the Fourth Kazekage, used Magnet Release to manipulate Gold Dust, dredging up and controlling enormous waves of the precious material with his chakra. It was powerful enough to help restrain Shukaku, but its biggest potential may have been sitting right under Sunagakure’s nose: Rasa possessed an ability that could turn gold into one of his village’s most valuable resources.

Rasa’s Gold Dust Was a Surprisingly Powerful Ability
Technically, Gold Dust itself isn’t a Kekkei Genkai. Rasa’s Kekkei Genkai was Magnet Release, a nature transformation that allowed him to generate magnetic forces and manipulate materials. His unique application involved Gold Dust, giving him a fighting style that was far more dangerous than its flashy appearance suggested. Rasa could produce a considerable quantity of Gold Dust and manipulate it into enormous waves. During his confrontation with Gaara, the amount he controlled was comparable to Gaara’s Quicksand Waterfall Flow.
Because gold is significantly denser than ordinary sand, Rasa’s Gold Dust could overpower Gaara’s sand when the two collided. The ability was particularly useful against Shukaku. Rasa repeatedly used his Gold Dust to subdue the One-Tail when it went berserk, layering the heavier material over Shukaku’s sand and making it much harder for the beast to manipulate. This gave Sunagakure’s Kazekage a remarkably practical way to deal with one of the most dangerous threats inside his own village.
Gold Dust wasn’t limited to enormous waves, either. Rasa could shape it into different forms for attacking and defending, and he could even use it with the Third Eye technique to observe areas from a distance. For a character whose signature ability was essentially controlling a valuable metal, the combat applications were surprisingly versatile. And then came the part that made Rasa’s ability so unusual. Gold Dust wasn’t merely a weapon. When Sunagakure faced serious economic problems, the village used the material as a valuable trade commodity. Rasa’s power therefore had a direct economic use in addition to its battlefield applications.
Sunagakure Could Have Turned Gold Dust Into Its Economic Superpower
Rasa from Naruto: Shippuden | Credits: Studio PierrotThis is where Rasa’s ability becomes almost comically valuable. Sunagakure was struggling financially after the Land of Wind’s Daimyo began outsourcing missions to Konohagakure. The loss of funding put the village under serious economic pressure, and Rasa looked for ways to compensate. In fact, the village did recognize the value of Rasa’s Gold Dust.
The Fourth Kazekage began selling it to make up for the funding lost when the Daimyo shifted missions to Konoha. So the idea that Suna completely overlooked its economic potential isn’t quite accurate. The story explicitly shows that Rasa used it as a source of revenue.
What makes the situation fascinating is how much further that idea could have gone. If Rasa’s Gold Dust had been developed into a larger, carefully managed resource, Sunagakure could potentially have built a lucrative trade around it. The village already had a source of valuable material that could be used both in combat and commerce. Its economic problems make that possibility especially striking.
If only Rasa had continued gathering and manipulating Gold Dust on a massive scale, every use of his jutsu could have doubled as another source of wealth. Naruto never placed a hard ceiling on how much Gold Dust Rasa could gather. As such, the fourth Kazekage’s Gold Dust ability could have effectively become an unlimited source of money for the village.
