The team behind Jon Bernthal and Tessa Thompson’s His & Hers is officially getting the band back together. William Oldroyd will write and direct a series adaptation of Alice Feeney’s upcoming thriller Twist, reuniting with Fifth Season, Campout Productions, Freckle Films, Bill Dubuque, and Thompson’s Viva Maude after their six-part Netflix murder mystery became a bona fide juggernaut. Deadline confirms the new project.
The record-breaking label has hard numbers behind it. His & Hers amassed 104 million views from its January 8 premiere through June 30, becoming Netflix’s most-watched TV series worldwide during the first half of 2026. It even edged Bridgerton Season 4, which collected 100.2 million. Netflix Tudum’s official H1 ranking puts His & Hers at No. 1. Also, Twist is not a His & Hers sequel, and neither Bernthal nor Thompson has been announced as part of its cast. Instead, the same creative machinery is tackling Feeney’s next standalone labyrinth.
Twist Has Another Marriage From Hell
Courtesy of Netflix Feeney clearly has no intention of making matrimony look relaxing. Twist centers on flight attendant Ariella, who has perfected a staggering double life. In one idyllic village, she is married to Noah and raising their daughter; in London, she is the glamorous new wife of Luka, living in a luxurious penthouse. Then a husband is murdered, and the secrets underpinning those supposedly perfect marriages begin to curdle. Pan Macmillan’s official book page provides the synopsis and currently lists a February 23, 2027 publication date.
Deadline describes the adaptation as a dual-POV thriller about love, marriage, murder, and revenge, built around the unsettling question of whether anyone truly knows the person sleeping beside them. Fifth Season will serve as studio, while Oldroyd returns as writer-director. The executive-producing bench is equally familiar: Kristen Campo, Jessica Chastain, Kelly Carmichael, Bill Dubuque, Tessa Thompson, Alice Feeney, Kishori Rajan, and Oldroyd are attached. Thompson’s involvement is currently behind the camera through Viva Maude rather than a confirmed acting role.
Feeney hardly needed persuading. “It was a very easy decision to get the band back together for Twist,” she said (via Deadline), calling the reunion “a dream come true.” Fifth Season executive Noah Greenshner similarly pointed to the “incredible success” of His & Hers as proof of what this particular group can accomplish. No cast, streamer, episode count, production date, or release window has been announced yet, so Twist remains firmly in development rather than production.
His & Hers Earned This Team Another Shot
Courtesy of NetflixThe reunion becomes considerably less surprising once His & Hers’ numbers are put into perspective. Netflix’s six-episode adaptation arrived on January 8, with Thompson playing former news anchor Anna Andrews opposite Bernthal’s detective Jack Harper. The estranged spouses investigate a murder in small-town Georgia while each begins wondering whether the other might be involved.
By the end of June, its 104 million views made it the No. 1 Netflix show of the entire six-month period. Only His & Hers and Bridgerton Season 4 crossed 100 million TV views during that window. Netflix also reported a record 97 billion hours watched across its service during the half. The critical verdict was more complicated than those gargantuan viewing figures. FandomWire’s His & Hers review called the series “schlocky but binge-worthy,” arguing that Thompson and Bernthal’s performances and the fleet pacing kept the mystery compulsively watchable even when its crime-drama machinery became familiar.
Twist now gives him another Feeney puzzle to dismantle, but with one delicious difference: the book itself has not even reached shelves yet. Instead of chasing His & Hers with an unnecessary second season, the team is betting that audiences came for Feeney’s brand of matrimonial duplicity and rug-pulling as much as they came for Jack and Anna.
After 104 million views, that is one gamble with rather persuasive odds. Tell us your casting picks in the comments and follow FandomWire for more Netflix thrillers, reviews, recaps, and ending breakdowns.
