Based on Stevenson’s 1883 adventure novel of the same name, Treasure Island centers around young Jim Hawkins. After discovering a map that leads to the long-lost treasure of Captain Flint, he joins a voyage aboard the Hispaniola. However, the journey soon takes a turn as the crew faces a mutiny by the sly pirate leader Long John Silver and his group.

Stevenson’s classic has been adapted for the screen more than 50 times, including both films and TV series, reports Penguin Books Australia. The Ridley Scott movie is expected to offer a fresh spin on the story, although final plot details remain under wraps. Hugh Jackman is confirmed to play Long John Silver, while Owen Cooper is reported to have joined as Jim Hawkins. Hugh Grant is also reportedly in talks for an undisclosed role.

There are reports that the production will begin in November 2026. However, Sony has not officially confirmed it.
