For West and Diddy, the spark that ignited their feud came in October 2022, when the former donned his infamous White Lives Matter T-shirt. Diddy, who had previously defended West’s eccentricities, could no longer turn a blind eye.

Their relationship soured in October 2022, after West’s controversial White Lives Matter T-shirts became the talk of the town (via Daily Express). Up until that moment, Diddy had defended West’s antics, calling him a “free thinker” and claiming that the media misunderstood him. However, when it came to the T-shirts, Diddy couldn’t stay silent, branding them as “tone deaf” during an interview with The Breakfast Club.

This led to a furious back-and-forth between the two. Ye lashed out in a text message, warning:

The ensuing online feud only deepened the rift between them. West also hinted at the emotional complexity of their fallout.

But it didn’t end there. The animosity grew when West accused Diddy of being “sent by Jews” and labeled him a “FED”. 

Diddy, despite the insults, continued to try and bridge the gap, urging West to meet face-to-face and settle things. Yet the latter wasn’t having it, opting instead to take their differences to social media, posting screenshots of their texts for the world to see. 

“I’m just trying to talk to you as a Black man”, Diddy pleaded, but West’s response was anything but reconciliatory: 

Despite the public airing of their grievances, Diddy refused to back down. His persistence led him to attend West’s controversial Rolling Loud performance in March 2024. However, sources later confirmed that West refused to meet with him backstage.

Once inseparable, Kanye West and Diddy’s relationship seemed to be one for the ages, filled with collaboration, mutual admiration, and shared moments of success. Diddy wasn’t just a mentor to West; he was the compass guiding him through the wild world of hip-hop and fame. In 2022, West expressed just how much Diddy meant to him. When he presented the mogul with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the BET Awards, Ye offered praise for Diddy’s revolutionary impact on hip-hop, acknowledging how he “broke all the rules” of the genre (Variety):

It was more than just admiration for Diddy’s musical contributions, though. West saw him as a role model, a figure who shaped not only his career but his personal life. He confessed:

The “wife choices” part was particularly telling.
