Now, this backlash urged a TikTok user to draw a parallel with how Pamela Anderson was treated in the 90s. Therefore, highlighting how misogyny is still very much prevailing in society, the netizen voiced her opinion.

History seems to be repeating itself for Timothée Chalamet and Kylie Jenner, as the couple once again faced backlash following their appearance at the 2025 Golden Globes. Previously, in 2024, after sparking months of dating speculations, as the duo made their public appearance at the Golden Globes, they were subjected to scrutiny and controversy. 

During the 2024 Golden Globes, it was Selena Gomez’s presumed gossip (via Vox), about Timothée Chalamet and Kylie Jenner, with Taylor Swift, that turned the couple into a hot topic of debate. But this time, it seemed like people just needed reasons to slam them. Despite maintaining a private relationship, when the couple made their recent public appearance, they were subject to mockery and humiliation. 

Surprisingly, the main backlash was aimed at Kylie Jenner, wherein people accused her of damaging the vintage Versace gown that she wore to the Golden Globes 2025, and also mocked her intelligence. According to reports from Enstarz, netizens expressed their outrage over the make-up mogul, after a rip in her outfit was spotted.

Considering that the outfit historically belonged to Versace’s Spring 1999 collection and was famously worn by actress Elizabeth Hurley during the CFDA Awards, a rip in it led people to take offense at Jenner’s inability to handle the gown with care. This further led people to slam her for her possible hip surgeries and associate her intelligence with her physical appearance.

Meanwhile, this backlash against Kylie Jenner, especially due to her relationship with Timothée Chalamet, led a TikToker to voice her opinion on the matter. Taking to the social media site, Ashleigh Carter thus reflected on the sexist scrutiny being faced by Jenner, which seemed similar to the mistreatment previously endured by Pamela Anderson during the 1990s.  

Given how people had failed to appreciate Pamela Anderson‘s talent and skills during her rise to fame, and simply reduced her to her looks, Ashleigh Carter claimed that Kylie Jenner is facing similar issues in society. Highlighting how women are still being judged based on their physical appearances, TikToker argued that society has barely evolved.

Further, addressing how Pamela Anderson, was often dismissed as nothing more than a “blonde bombshell”, and it took her until recently when she started appearing in public without makeup that made people take her seriously, Ashleigh Carter noted that even Kylie Jenner is facing similar degradation. 

Despite her billion-dollar beauty empire and her financial success, people are still reducing Kylie Jenner to her looks and physical appearance and accusing her of being dumb and unworthy of Timothée Chalamet. Thereafter, Carter’s video led several other netizens to side with her perspective and call out people’s unnecessary outrage against Jenner. 

Appreciating the video as an eye-opening comparison, people agreed that the parallels between how society mistreated Pamela Anderson and how they are still disrespecting Jenner, are undeniable.
