Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced will have you roaming the high seas in your Jackdaw once again! However, the fastest way to become the terror of the Caribbean is getting your Jackdaw’s upgrade order right.
Keep in mind that Resynced tweaks ship balance and progression a bit. Yet, the core truth is the same: survival and reliable damage come first, fancy tools later.
5 Ram Strength

Keep in mind that you don’t have to max Ram Strength before anything else. But buying the first couple of levels early gives you a strong panic tool. Also, ramming is a perfect finisher when an enemy is trying to escape.
4 Mortar
Mortar bombardment clears the seas and shores | Credit: UbisoftOnce forts and heavier ships show up, Mortar unlocks a completely different way to fight. Not only can you open from long range, soften targets before they’re close enough to hit you, but also punish anything that tries to run.
Picking up Mortar as an early‑mid upgrade means you can trivialize fort assaults and rough ship clusters. Getting base Mortar online as soon as you can afford it is a huge quality‑of‑life boost for story missions, too.
3 Broadside Cannons
Broadside cannons unleashing a full volley is a thing of beauty in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced | Credit: UbisoftYour Broadside Cannons are the Jackdaw’s main damage source. More cannons and more power per shot mean every broadside strips enemy armor faster. This not only sets up boarding sooner but also reduces the amount of time you’re exposed to incoming fire.
Remember that you can’t lean on mortars or fancy tools at close range forever. Once you’ve got a solid first or second tier in Broadside Cannons, even mid‑tier ships stop feeling like damage sponges.
2 Round and Heated Shot

This line directly scales the damage of your standard round shot, which you’re using in every single naval engagement.
Remember that upgrading Round and Heated Shot often gives more raw damage per broadside than adding a few extra cannons. More strength gives you the freedom of not having perfect aim or timing in every attack.
1 Hull Armor
Upgraded hull armor can brace so much more | Credit: UbisoftIf you unlock only one thing early, make it Hull Armor! It should be at the top of the priority list, because more health means you won’t be dismantled by two broadsides.
Hull Armor is basically the most important upgrade available to you. With even a couple of early hull tiers, you can survive mistakes and tank multi‑ship engagements. On top of that, this lets you make use of all the other upgrades you’re buying instead of sinking before they matter.
| 5 | Ram Strength | Lets you open or finish fights with high burst damage when closing the distance, now more useful thanks to earlier Ram‑Dash access in Resynced. |
| 4 | Mortar | Dominates forts and large ships from long range, softening targets before they can meaningfully damage you; early levels are affordable and impactful. |
| 3 | Broadside Cannons | Increases cannon count and broadside power, which every naval fight relies on; recommended as an immediate priority right after hull. |
| 2 | Round and Heated Shot | Directly boosts your core round‑shot damage and later unlocks Round & Heated Shot, dramatically improving time‑to‑kill against tougher ships. |
| 1 | Hull Armor | The single most important early upgrade; it raises the Jackdaw’s HP, prevents quick deaths, and gives you a forgiving learning curve in Resynced’s tougher naval combat. |
