Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey arrived in theaters on July 17, 2026, released by Universal Pictures. Also written by Nolan, it retells Homer’s ancient Greek poem, following Odysseus through a ten-year struggle to get home after the Trojan War. Matt Damon leads the ensemble cast, which also includes Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson, and Charlize Theron.
The music comes from Ludwig Göransson, the Academy Award-winning composer known for Sinners, Oppenheimer, Black Panther, Creed, Tenet, and The Mandalorian. This is his third film with Nolan. Back Lot Music put the album out digitally on July 17, a day after the full details were revealed. Mutant will follow with a 2-CD set and a triple vinyl edition in the coming weeks.

The Odyssey Complete Soundtrack Album
The Odyssey soundtrack album runs to 23 tracks, most of them named after the people, places, and creatures Odysseus meets along the way. The end credits song of The Odyssey is the one people are talking about. When I’m Home was written by Göransson, Blake, Scott, and Nolan himself, with Göransson and Blake producing it.
That writing credit is a first for Christopher Nolan, who has been directing for close to thirty years without ever putting his name on a song. Nolan is someone who usually avoids tie-in singles and only uses existing music when it serves the plot.

What Ludwig Göransson Said About The Odyssey Soundtrack?
Matt Damon in The Odyssey | Credits: Universal PicturesThe biggest rule Ludwig Göransson worked under was that Christopher Nolan did not want a normal orchestral score. The composer has framed it as a matter of historical accuracy, pointing out to Time Magazine, “It’s not like the orchestra existed back then.”
He brought in 35 bronze gongs of different sizes and layered them with synthesisers, which was a nod to the Bronze Age setting as per Nolan’s suggestion. He also recorded himself striking whatever he could find outdoors, from scrap metal to railings and air conditioning units.
Nolan also pushed him towards two ancient Greek instruments early on. He used the aulos, a double-pipe reed instrument that Göransson calls the rockstar instrument of its era, played by Callum Armstrong. He also used the lyre, which Nolan thought could stand in for the pluck of Odysseus’ bow, played by Rosa Fragorapti.
Göransson has said he had to leave his comfort zone and find sounds he had never used before to build the film’s world. Joshua Ryan of FW gave a score of 9 and called it a colossal epic in our review of The Odyssey.
