The Batman: Part 2 Officially Teases Gotham’s Most Terrifying Secret Society

Leaked images from the sets of The Batman: Part 2 tease one of the most-demanded sagas in DC comics. Matt Reeves’ follow-up to 2022’s The Batman with Robert Pattinson is one of Hollywood’s most anticipated projects, and new hints have been dropping about what the sequel will be about.

According to one of the leaked set images, a protest sequence is being filmed, and on one of the signs, it says, ‘The Court of Fouls’. No points for guessing what terrifying secret society this is in reference to. The Court of Owls saga has long been campaigned for by fans to be adapted, and now it looks like it will finally be a reality.

Fans Want an Eyes Wide Shut-style Court of Owls Scene in The Batman: Part 2

Matt Reeves’ BatVerse does not shy away from being brutal. As an Elseworld project away from the main DCU continuity, the franchise has a bit more leeway when it comes to showing some truly dark scenes on the screen. The Batman did not shy away from some truly disturbing imagery, including brutal deaths and implying harsh storylines.

The latest leaked images from the sets of The Batman: Part 2 have teased the presence of the Court of Owls in Gotham and that it might be common knowledge. If protestors are making puns about the ‘secret society’, then it is not that secret to begin with. While it might just be an Easter Egg, fans are completely into the idea of a Court of Owls adaptation.

Reeves’ films are known for putting references to Hollywood classics, with the first film being a homage to David Fincher’s Se7en. Stanley Kubrick’s Eyes Wide Shut is known for its iconic scene with a Freemason society and their rituals. Ever since fans learned that the Court of Owls saga might be adapted, they have been campaigning for a similar sequence.

In the comics, the Court of Owls is a secret society of influential and wealthy Gotham citizens who have been quietly pulling the strings through major historic events. The deeper conspiracy behind the politics of Gotham was already hinted at by the Riddler in The Batman. Adding the Court of Owls will make it all the more interesting.

Leaked Images of The Batman: Part 2 Tease Another DC Character

If the Court of Owls is happening, it will allow Matt Reeves to fully lean into a psychological horror zone for The Batman: Part 2. Fans have expressed their desire to see the Talon and the iconic labyrinth sequence, which will test Bruce Wayne’s psyche. The Wayne Family’s involvement will also break Bruce’s idealistic view of his parents.

In line with these political and deep state themes is a hint at another prominent DC character in the leaked images. At the same protest site where we saw the ‘Court of Fouls’ sign is the symbol of the character Anarky. Anarky is a child prodigy who has radical ideas about politics and wants to overthrow governments.

Anarky, in the comics, is an adversary of Batman. While it might just be a regular anarchy symbol at a protest site, the character would totally make sense in the BatVerse. If the Court of Owls represents entrenched, hidden power, Anarky would represent its violent, populist opposite, giving Reeves a way to explore corruption from both above and below.

With Sebastian Stan playing Harvey Dent, the film will definitely explore more about Gotham’s secret ruling class, bringing all these characters together in a cohesive way.
