Christopher Nolan Officially Beats All 2026 WB Movies Combined With The Odyssey

Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey crossed the $1 billion mark a while ago. However, the worldwide box office collection of The Odyssey is massive. So massive that it outperformed all of Warner Bros.’s movies of 2026… combined!

Per Box Office Mojo, The Odyssey earned a total domestic collection of $613 million and $1.1 billion from the international market. This brings the worldwide collection of Christopher Nolan’s epic adaptation to a whopping $1.72 billion! It seems that Warner Bros. Pictures is going through a tough year.

WB’s Worst Year in Decades Meets Universal’s Best Year

Warner Bros. did not have the best year. Many of their movies simply failed or were considered a dud by audiences and critics alike, which significantly affected their theatrical earnings.

Although there were several iconic lineups for 2026, including Wuthering Heights, Supergirl, and Evil Dead Burn, people weren’t simply interested enough in having the theatrical experience. Check out the table for comparison below:

On the other hand, Universal Pictures released several movies that crossed the $1 billion mark individually. The studio kicked off the year by releasing The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, which went on to earn a total of $1.01 billion worldwide (via Box Office Mojo).

Releasing the Michael Jackson biopic, Michael, Universal Pictures reached another $1 billion ($1.02 billion to be exact, via Box Office Mojo), and the third one was Nolan’s The Odyssey, which sat at $1.7 billion.

In fact, Universal became the first studio to cross the $4 billion mark globally in 2026 (via NBC) by reaching $1.53 billion domestically and $2.48 billion internationally. This also marked the fifth time in Universal’s history that it has crossed $4 billion, with 2026 being its strongest theatrical milestone since 2023.

Naturally, Warner Bros. lost a good amount of money by letting go of Christopher Nolan: $1.72 billion, to be exact.

Although being partners for more than a decade (from Batman Begins back in 2005), Christopher Nolan decided to part ways with Warner Bros. Pictures after Tenet. The 2020 film was the last film that Nolan directed and released under the banner of WB.

Following his exit from WB because of the same-day streaming release, Nolan went on to Universal Pictures and directed the iconic 2023 flick, Oppenheimer. As if winning the Oscar for Best Picture wasn’t enough, Oppenheimer went on to earn a worldwide collection of $975 million (per Box Office Mojo), money that could have been Warner Bros.’s.

The director was a proven box-office anchor due to his work on The Dark Knight trilogy, Inception, Interstellar, Dunkirk, and Tenet. However, Nolan is now working directly with WB’s rival and earning them a billion dollars. That’s quite the turn of the tables.

With Nolan continuing to work with Universal Pictures, it might just be possible that the cost of losing The Odyssey director could keep rising for Warner Bros. Pictures.
