Resident Evil Director Officially Confirms Next Movie: “My most disturbing film”

Following the success of Resident Evil, director Zach Cregger has officially confirmed that his next movie is in the works, and it is… terrifying. Cregger, known for directing Barbarian, Weapons, and Resident Evil, is known for brutality and disturbing scenes in his films. However, his next film might just take the cake.

In an interview with ScreenRant, Cregger talked about his upcoming project titled The Flood. According to the director, The Flood will be his most disturbing film yet, and that says a lot about the movie.

It’s science fiction, and it’s probably my most disturbing film. It’s not a horror movie, but it has a lot of horror in it. I love it. I think it’s really, really special. I’m excited about it.

The film is currently in soft prep, and Cregger has not revealed any information about the plot of the movie. However, based on his quotes, we can guesstimate what The Flood will probably be about.

With the revelation that this would be his most disturbing film yet, Cregger earlier mentioned to Men’s Health that the film is a close resemblance to Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey.

I’m not comparing it to 2001, because I think 2001 is a true masterpiece in every sense of the word, but there’s a bizarreness to that movie that’s really undeniable, and it’s also a horror movie. And I think, in that way, there’s some similarity with Flood.

In a separate interview with Deadline, the Resident Evil director confirmed that The Flood will be set in an isolated space station, giving it very Alien vibes. Speaking of the extraterrestrial, director Steven Spielberg will also be joining Zach Cregger in this project as a producer through his company, Amblin Entertainment.

Thus, it does fit the 2001: A Space Odyssey narrative pretty well. We also know that the movie is going to be quite disturbing, and that it will deal with something beyond minor threats. That’s why we think this just might be Cregger’s magnum opus when it releases.
