I just read your editorial concerning the Air Canada CEO’s message that was delivered in English only, and your criticism of the federal government for their response (“Creating a crisis about a language faux pas,” March 26). I am disgusted with your comments! Michael Rousseau’s lack of understanding of French, especially due to the fact that he is based in Quebec, is totally unacceptable. As usual, the anglophone press — you — have completely missed the boat again. This is not a language issue!

CARNEY’S CRASS ISSUE
Your March 26 editorial goes way too easy on both Prime Minister Mark Carney and Quebec Premier Francois Legault. To crassly, and without shame, use the deaths of the two Air Canada pilots for their own political advantage, virtue signalling about bilingualism, is low and beneath contempt. Why are the “elbows up” crowd who are appalled at Donald Trump’s rhetoric suddenly fine with Carney exploiting actual death and tragedy for his political purposes? A stain on Canada both, in a time of sorrow.

FOCUS ON THE ACCIDENT
How petty it is to make a big deal that the CEO of Air Canada did not also make a speech in French. I would think the main focus should be on the two young men who lost their lives in the horrible accident instead of on whether or not a statement of condolences was made only in English. The loss of their lives and the bravery the passengers say saved their lives is more important than what language the speech was in. Shame on the people who complained about this instead of complaining about finding out how this accident happened.
