Helldivers 2 Officially Introduces the TD-110 Maelstrom: A Tank With Twin Miniguns and Missile Launchers

Helldivers 2 has officially unveiled the TD-110 Maelstrom, a heavily armored Infantry Fighting Vehicle carrying twin front-mounted Gatling guns, rear-mounted missile silos, and a deployable smoke screen. More importantly, you can already take this ridiculous machine into battle.

This new tank is currently being supplied as a free prototype during the new “Armored Eagle Phase 1” Major Order. Its in-game Stratagem Permit also gives us our first proper look at what Super Earth’s newest armored toy can actually do, including its standard 11-second call-in time and 13-minute cooldown (without the Morale Augmentation ship module upgrade).

The TD-110 Maelstrom Brings Twin Gatling Guns and Guided Missiles to Helldivers 2

The Maelstrom is officially described as an Infantry Fighting Vehicle, but calling it an IFV doesn’t quite prepare you for the amount of hardware bolted onto this new product of democracy-fueled engineering. It has two triple-barrel Gatling guns attached at the front, while missile silos are mounted toward the rear.

Those missiles aren’t just there to make the vehicle look more dangerous in the recruitment poster. The official in-game description confirms that their projectiles are laser-guided by the gunner’s turret, giving the Maelstrom a way to deal with heavily armored targets alongside its constant stream of Gatling fire.

The vehicle also comes with a deployable smoke screen, which should give its crew another option when simply pointing two Gatling guns at the problem stops being sufficient. The Stratagem Permit lists it with Heavy Armor Penetrating and Anti-Tank traits, too.

There is also a wonderfully Super Earth way of introducing all this firepower. The Maelstrom is being marketed under the X-UDE Citizen Edition branding with the slogan, “A Tank in Every Driveway. Luxury in Every Detail.” Apparently, the natural next step after a family SUV is an IFV with enough guns to solve several neighborhood disputes at once.

The Maelstrom Is Currently Free to Test During the Armored Eagle Major Order

Of course, the timing of the Maelstrom’s arrival following the latest Devoid of Liberty 7.1.0 Update is no mere accident. The new Armored Eagle Phase 1 Major Order sends Helldivers to liberate Marfark and Phact Bay, where enemy forces are preventing AM Defense, the manufacturer behind the glorious new tank, from securing territory needed to construct its new Maelstrom production facilities.

According to the briefing, the Ministry of Defense has signed a new agreement with AM Defense, also the contractor behind Super Earth’s FRVs, to produce the new tank. To help with the operation, AM Defense has provided prototype Maelstrom models free of charge to Helldivers fighting on those planets.

So if you’ve been staring at Arrowhead‘s promotional images wondering when you get to drive the thing in Helldivers 2, the answer is right now. Answer the call for the Major Order, drop onto Marfark or Phact Bay, and you can put the tank through its first battlefield test while helping secure the territory it supposedly needs to be manufactured.
