5 Akaza Left Rengoku Dead After Their Heartbreaking Final Battle

Akaza is here because, honestly, watching him kill Rengoku still hurts. The Upper Three arrives at Mugen Train after Enmu’s defeat, and what follows is less like a random demon attack and more like two warriors recognizing something extraordinary in each other. Akaza sees Rengoku’s strength and immediately wants him to become a demon. Rengoku refuses. Rengoku chooses his humanity and his unshakeable beliefs, even when staying human means accepting death.

Akaza earns #5 because, while killing Rengoku is devastating, his cruelty is more concentrated in one personal confrontation than the betrayals and wider destruction caused by the demons ranked above him.

4 Enmu Turned the Mugen Train Into Rengoku’s Final Journey

Enmu ranks above Akaza because his cruelty affected an entire train full of innocent passengers and deliberately created the chain of events that left Rengoku facing his final battle, even though Enmu himself did not kill the Flame Hashira. The Lower One manipulates people into entering Tanjiro and the others’ dreams, exploiting their happiest desires and deepest emotional weaknesses.

Rengoku boards the train to investigate the disappearances and ends up protecting more than 200 passengers during the chaos. 3 Kaigaku Betrayed Everything Zenitsu’s Master Stood For

Kaigaku ranks #3 and above Enmu because his actions did not simply endanger strangers; his betrayal destroyed the legacy of his own master and left Zenitsu to confront the deeply personal consequences of that choice. He was Jigoro Kuwajima’s senior disciple. Jigoro trained both boys under the same Thunder Breathing tradition, hoping they would carry that legacy forward. Then Kaigaku chose Muzan’s blood over everything Jigoro had taught him.

Jigoro, as the former Thunder Hashira, could not simply live with one of his students becoming a demon. He ultimately took his own life, leaving Zenitsu to carry the emotional wreckage. That makes Zenitsu’s confrontation with Kaigaku in the Infinity Castle so much more personal.

Instead, he comes back to a massacre. His mother and siblings are dead. Nezuko is barely alive and has been transformed into a demon. One ordinary morning effectively erased Tanjiro’s entire life. And Muzan does not even have the decency to know what that family meant to him.

Muzan destroys lives almost casually, while the people left behind spend years carrying the consequences. Muzan ranks above Kaigaku because his cruelty was not limited to betraying one family or destroying one legacy.

1 Doma Destroyed Kotoha, Kanae, and Shinobu in the Cruelest Ways

Doma takes #1 because, unlike the demons below him, his cruelty repeatedly devastated multiple families across generations, personally destroying Kotoha, Kanae, and Shinobu while leaving Inosuke and Kanao to carry the emotional aftermath. Kotoha Hashibira fled an abusive family with baby Inosuke and found refuge at Doma’s Eternal Paradise Faith, only to discover that he was a demon. Desperate to save her baby, Kotoha threw Inosuke into a river before Doma killed and consumed her.

Years later, he killed Kanae Kocho and eventually consumed Shinobu during their Infinity Castle battle. But Shinobu had planned for that. Her body was saturated with wisteria poison, allowing Kanao and Inosuke to finish him. Doma did not just kill people. He left generations broken.
