Clayface Trailer Officially Promises DCU’s True Body Horror in 4 Weeks

The DCU is all set to release its first official body horror with the release of Clayface. The film, slated for release on October 23, 2026, just released a new trailer, and it is… quite disturbing. In fact, it is so disturbing that fans are loving it and simply cannot wait for its release.

Clocking in at 1:41, the trailer features various snippets from the upcoming movie and showcases Tom Rhys Harries’ phenomenal performance as Matt Hagen, aka Clayface. The changes to his face start out small, when even he doesn’t know what his face looks like.

However, the trailer quickly takes a dive into disturbing scenes involving Matt Hagen about to cut his eyelids with small scissors. An early press release has alleged that the movie is highly disturbing, and judging from the trailer, it seems that they might just be right.

Joining Tom Rhys Harries are Naomi Ackie and Max Minghella as a scientist and a Gotham police officer. However, the iconic thing to note is that the screenplay is written by Mike Flanagan (the director of The Haunting of Hill House, Oculus, and more). Naturally, we can expect plenty of scares and disturbing moments throughout the whole movie.

What Is the Plot of Clayface?

Much like many of the DC villains, the origin story of Clayface is quite sad. Being on the chase for vanity, Tom Rhys Harries portrays the role of Matt Hagen, a rising movie star who gets brutally disfigured. Wanting to restore his vanity, Matt Hagen volunteers for an experiment to restore his original face.

However, things start to take a turn for the worse as Hagen starts experiencing side effects of the procedure. With his face drooping and turning clay-like, Matt Hagen loses the love of the audience and goes down a dark path in order to exact vengeance and wreak havoc across Gotham City.

With Mike Flanagan attached as the screenplay writer and Gunn and Peter Safran involved as producers, the first official body-horror movie of the DCU is expected to achieve great success. Although the trailer does look awesome, there are some people who might just find it too disturbing.
