Boruto: Konoha Officially Sets Up Tobirama’s Biggest Fear With an Uchiha Hokage

The Hokage hat has always been more than a piece of ceremonial headwear in Naruto. It represents Konoha’s trust, its ideals and, perhaps most importantly, who the village believes is worthy of carrying its future. So there is something deliciously ironic about the possibility that one day, that hat could land on an Uchiha. Sarada Uchiha has wanted to become Hokage since she was a child, inspired by Naruto rather than her father Sasuke’s more complicated relationship with the village. What once looked like a cute parallel to Naruto’s dream now carries considerably more weight.

With Boruto: Two Blue Vortex giving Sarada a larger role, awakening her Mangekyō Sharingan and repeatedly placing her at the heart of Konoha’s biggest crises, the story is quietly making her ambition feel less like wishful thinking. In doing so, the narrative is officially laying the groundwork for what Tobirama spent his entire reign dreading: the highest seat of power in Konoha being handed to an Uchiha, who are susceptible to the Cursed of Hatred. And if Sarada eventually becomes the Ninth Hokage, the symbolism would be enormous.

Boruto Is Quietly Paving the Way for Sarada to Become Hokage

Sarada’s Hokage dream was established almost immediately in Boruto as an Uchiha successor who dreams of becoming Hokage like Naruto. She admired the Seventh Hokage because he treated the villagers as family, giving her a model of leadership fundamentally different from Sasuke’s path. That distinction became crucial when Omnipotence rewrote the world’s memories.

Sarada and Sumire were among the few people who remained unaffected by Eida’s ability. When everyone else accepted Boruto as Konoha’s enemy, Sarada refused to abandon him. She even begged Sasuke to help him, a decision that ultimately pushed Sasuke into protecting Boruto and leaving the village with him. Her Mangekyō Sharingan awakened amid that emotional crisis.

Two Blue Vortex has continued building on that choice. Sarada has remained committed to Boruto despite the village’s distorted perception of him, while her importance on the battlefield has grown substantially. She eventually awakened her Mangekyō ability, Ōhirume, and became capable of wielding an ability powerful enough to influence major battles. Yet her potential as Hokage is not simply about power. That is the interesting part.

Sarada repeatedly proves the willingness to question Konoha when its assumptions are wrong. She can inherit the Uchiha’s formidable abilities without allowing those abilities to dictate her ideology. Even her latest predicament of being targeted by Code after becoming central to Boruto’s strategy keeps her directly tied to the story’s biggest conflicts. Two Blue Vortex‘s most recent officially available chapter is Chapter 36, meaning the manga is still very much in the middle of her story rather than at its conclusion.

Meanwhile, Shikamaru’s position as the provisional Eighth Hokage remains politically complicated, leaving the future of Konoha’s leadership deliberately unsettled. So no, Sarada is not confirmed as the Ninth Hokage just yet. But the runway is being built.

Sarada Could Finally Rewrite the Uchiha’s Place in Konoha

Tobirama Senju‘s relationship with the Uchiha was complicated rather than simply being blind hatred. In Naruto Chapter 619, he explained that the Uchiha were actually capable of exceptionally powerful love and affection. His concern was that the loss of someone they loved could transform those emotions into hatred and despair, producing the Sharingan and potentially driving an Uchiha into darkness.

Tobirama also attempted to channel the Uchiha’s abilities toward Konoha’s interests, most notably through the village’s Military Police Force. His worldview was therefore deeply rooted in controlling what he considered a potentially dangerous power, and ensuring an Uchiha would never ascend to the Hokage seat where unchecked emotion could lead the entire village into catastrophe. And then along comes Sarada. She is an Uchiha whose defining ambition is not revenge, domination or isolation. It is to become Hokage and protect the village she loves.

Yet the danger Tobirama warned about hasn’t vanished. Sarada’s Mangekyō Sharingan still awakened from intense emotional anguish over someone she loves, proving the core mechanism of the Uchiha’s emotional intensity remains identical. If she takes the mantle, Konoha will have officially embraced the exact leadership scenario Tobirama built entire political frameworks to prevent, placing the village’s supreme authority squarely in the hands of the clan he feared could be unraveled by love and loss.

We know that Tobirama never predicted an Uchiha Hokage or specifically feared Sarada, who came several generations after him. But as narrative irony? It is almost too perfect. The Uchiha were once treated as a threat to Konoha’s stability. Now, a direct descendant of that powerful clan, who also happens to be Sasuke’s daughter, could eventually become the person responsible for preserving it.
