Andy Park stepped down from his role as Director of Visual Development at Marvel Studios after 16 years with the studio. His exit from the company followed the mass layoffs at Disney. Sources told Variety that Park’s exit was part of the layoffs.
The layoffs are part of new Disney CEO Josh D’Amaro’s plans to “streamline our operations.” About 1000 roles were eliminated after Disney formed a consolidated enterprise market division under Asad Ayaz.
The overhaul in the Visual Development Department is aimed at keeping a smaller team in-house, while hiring people on a project-by-project basis. These artists can be hired either from the U.S. or from overseas, where the costs are much cheaper. The department will operate under the guidance of Ryan Meinerding, who will remain in his position as creative director and department head.
