Marvel Rivals Season 9 is expected to begin on July 10, 2026, following the conclusion of Season 8.5 and its associated events, battle pass, and Summer Festival content. The date lines up with both the official roadmap and the current in-game timers.
As usual, the bigger question isn’t when the update arrives but who and what is actually coming with it. From Apocalypse-related story developments to strong hints about the next playable heroes, there’s already plenty to talk about before NetEase officially begins its marketing push next week. Read on for everything we know so far about Season 9.

Season 8.5 has been a fairly busy half-season so far. The update launched on June 12 with Cyclops joining the Duelist roster, immediately giving ranked players a new hero to learn, ban, complain about, or all three at once. Since then, most of the season’s content has arrived through the gradual rollout of Summer Festival ’26, keeping players busy while the next major update quietly crept closer.
Now we’re approaching the point where the season starts winding down. Looking at both the official roadmap and the current battle pass timer, we can confidently say that Season 8.5 is scheduled to conclude on Friday, July 10. If NetEase sticks to the same update cadence it has followed for previous seasonal launches, maintenance is expected to begin at 1 AM PDT / 4 AM EDT.
That downtime, as always, is expected to last roughly three hours. And, barring any unexpected delays, Marvel Rivals Season 9 should officially go live on July 10, 2026, at 4 AM PDT/7 AM EDT. If you’re still sitting on spending your Chrono Tokens on the battle pass, event rewards, or cosmetics you’ve been meaning to unlock later, now is probably a good time to stop procrastinating.
Of course, the actual update is only half the story. If previous seasons are anything to go by, the real marketing cycle should begin several days earlier. We expect Tuesday, July 7, to kick things off with a season trailer, Dev Vision Vol. 19, and the reveal of the first hero arriving in the update. By this point, the routine is familiar. The community spends weeks arguing over leaks and theories, then NetEase drops enough information in a single afternoon to make half those discussions irrelevant.

While NetEase hasn’t officially announced a Season 9 hero yet, the current clues point heavily toward Jubilee and The Hood becoming the next major additions to the roster. Between gallery cards, lore entries, and long-running leaks, both characters have become increasingly difficult to ignore as we move closer to July 10.
More importantly, neither character appears to be arriving in isolation. The final gallery card in Season 8’s Sins of Alchemax storyline, along with its accompanying lore, shifts the focus directly onto Apocalypse and sets the stage for what comes next.
Jubilee Appears to Be Next in Line

The strongest evidence comes from the latest lore entry, “A Murder Foretold,” where Apocalypse speaks with a young woman who repeatedly references fireworks while discussing his plans for the future. Given Jubilee’s long-standing association with pyrotechnic powers, most of the community immediately reached the same conclusion.
The accompanying gallery artwork only strengthens that theory. Apocalypse stands surrounded by his Horsemen, with one character drawing particular attention by casually blowing a bubblegum bubble. Anyone familiar with Jubilee’s comic appearances can probably understand why speculation exploded within hours of the lore going live.
If Jubilee does arrive, her powers give NetEase plenty of interesting directions to explore. While she’s often remembered for creating colorful fireworks, her mutant ability is actually the generation of explosive plasma bursts that she can shape and control in different ways. Depending on how the developers choose to interpret those powers, they could easily become healing effects, buffs, crowd control abilities, debuffs, or offensive projectiles.
That’s partly why Jubilee is widely expected to join the Strategist lineup. Marvel Rivals already has no shortage of Duelists, while Jubilee’s power set feels naturally suited to a utility-focused support hero. Of course, this is the same game that turned Rogue into a Vanguard and surprised everyone with Strategist Gambit and Ultron, so predicting roles has become a dangerous game in itself.
The Hood May Not Be Far Behind

The clues are there, but they’re far less direct. “A Murder Foretold” references a hooded man tied to prophecies surrounding Apocalypse’s downfall, and most of the community has taken that as another nod toward Parker Robbins.
His potential gameplay is also far harder to predict than Jubilee’s. In the comics, The Hood combines firearms with supernatural abilities such as flight, teleportation, invisibility, and dark magic. Depending on which side of the character NetEase has chosen to prioritize, he could realistically end up filling almost any role in the game.
The current community favorite appears to be Vanguard, largely because Cyclops just joined as a Duelist and the roster still has more than enough room for more frontline heroes. And judging by NetEase’s recent release cadence, Jubilee feels like the stronger candidate for Season 9 itself, with The Hood potentially following in Season 9.5.
That said, the “prophecy” itself is arguably the more interesting clue. Apocalypse places “the hooded man” among the forces expected to oppose his plans, suggesting The Hood could have a much larger role in Season 9’s narrative than simply showing up as the next playable hero.
Apocalypse Is Becoming the Center of Season 9’s Storyline

Jubilee is there, The Hood gets mentioned, yet every road in the conversation eventually leads back to Apocalypse and whatever “ascension” he’s preparing for.
The lore also gives us a better idea of the conflict taking shape behind the scenes. Gods are dying, Khonshu appears to be one of the few survivors, and Apocalypse believes he’s the answer to a broken timeline. The next season already appears to be built around that conflict.
That timing also makes the long-leaked Thebes map particularly interesting. The Egyptian location first surfaced in leaks all the way back in December 2024 and has remained one of the more notable unreleased maps ever since:

"Egypt, cool! I always wanted to see the pyramids."
That said, if history is any guide, Apocalypse is probably staying where NetEase likes to keep its major seasonal villains: central to the story, but not on the roster. Dracula, Knull, Grandmaster, Collector, Kingpin, and the rest all stayed in that lane, and Apocalypse looks to be cut from the same cloth.
