1 hour ago 8

While no one asked for it, Prime Video’s Legally Blonde prequel, Elle Season 1, arrived with a lot of drama, pink escapades, and surprising twists. When we first meet Elle Woods, she is a 16-year-old confident Los Angeles teenager who has suddenly been uprooted from her familiar surroundings and taken to a whole new side of the world: Seattle.

Forced to relocate there after a family scandal, Seattle and her new school, Rainier West High School, couldn’t be more different than Elle’s perfect pink world. It takes time for her to find her footing but just when it looks like she has figured it out, it all comes crashing down.

From getting her school secretary Donna fired to turning the whole school against her, episode 8 of Elle Season 1 was quite an event. Here is how the last episode of the season played out, including what it means for the future of the series.

Why Does Everyone Turn Against Elle?

The finale of Elle Season 1, What, Like It’s Hard, picks right after the penultimate episode. After the essays she had written come out in print, Shannon finds them. Elle and Shannon already had a fallout after the former kissed the latter’s ex-boyfriend and hid it.

The essays — critical of Seattle, the new school, and even the people Elle now hangs out with — no longer represent what Elle thinks. But the damage is immediate and disastrous as everyone turns against her, including her friends Liz, Miles, and Dustin.

While it hurts Elle, she takes the opportunity and addresses it during her school assembly and asks for forgiveness. Her speech is sincere but not everyone forgives her. Heartbroken, she is left to deal with the consequences of her actions rather than the show fixing everything quickly.

Why Does Elle Leave Seattle for Los Angeles?

While Elle Woods is dealing with everything, her mother, Eva, submits her application for the Cosmopolitan internship. Even though Elle doubts herself, Eva knows her daughter’s talent and passion for fashion.

After the fallout with her school and friends earlier in Elle Season 1, Elle decides to leave for Los Angeles, the city she believes to be her home. There, she meets the famous stylist Anna St. George, and the change is evident. She is no longer doubtful of herself but confident and knows her way out, fitting in perfectly.

We can catch glimpses of her future self, the one we see in the original films: self-assured and empowering. Her time in Seattle made her understand that being fashionable and confident is not all there is in life. However, now that she is in a place she for so long has dreamed about, she still feels something is missing.

In Elle Season 1, Elle and Liz join Dustin to figure out what is wrong with their school, Rainier West. Dustin believes Principal Anderson has been secretly embezzling funds, and Kimberley and Miles agree to join them as well to expose the corruption.

After Miles breaks into Anderson’s office, they find out that the principal has a secret family and might be getting blackmailed by a third party. After accidentally getting their school secretary, Donna, fired, the students work even harder to find the truth.

After Elle Woods makes a shocking discovery, they find out that it is none other than the mayoral candidate, Dean Wilson, who has been blackmailing Anderson. Wilson was using the large amount of funds stolen from the school for his political campaign. Thanks to their efforts, Donna’s name is cleared.

How Does Elle Season 1 Ending Set Up Season 2?

In Elle Season 1, our heroine has undergone tremendous change. By the time we reach Episode 8, a lot has happened.

Firstly, after a complicated love situation with Miles and Dustin, Elle Woods seems to have chosen the latter. She comes back to Seattle (we will explain that shortly!) and finds herself at Rainier West’s Winter Formal. While she is there to support Liz, she ends up meeting Dustin, and after a fierce confrontation, they end up kissing. But Miles witnesses it, leaving Elle caught in a sort of a love-triangle situation.

Meanwhile, Elle’s and Shannon’s friendship turns into a tragedy. After everything that happened, including the kiss with Miles and its aftermath, they seemed to have forgiven each other as they came face-to-face at the airport. But it seems both need time to move on if they ever become friends again.

As for Seattle, Elle realizes that leaving for Los Angeles was the biggest mistake she made. She realizes that Seattle is the home she has been searching for and rushes back. Once there, she tries to make things right and gains back Liz and Dustin. But the season ends with Miles finding out about her and Dustin.

From what we could figure out, Elle has finally found the place she belongs and has learned a hard lesson that there is more to life and success than just fashion and self-assurance. She is confident and is taking accountability for her actions, and is also more empathetic and emotionally mature than before. But her love life has reached a complicated point now.

The future season will surely tackle Elle’s life in Seattle, but with renewed energy and eagerness to take on challenges. She will also have to make a choice between Dustin and Miles, as well as try to patch things up with her friends, including Shannon.
