10 Unresolved FROM Mysteries to Address in Season 5

FROM ended Season 4 with a devastating climax that threw the town into the endgame of chaos. The Man in Yellow’s seeds that were slowly planted have now taken full effect. Multiple characters don’t know what to believe, scrambling to make do with what little information they have about the supernatural mysteries of Fromville.

While we did get a fair amount of knowledge about Tabitha and Jade’s connection to Fromville, this came at a cost. The death of many of the main cast was a signal that the town is “pushing back.” The more secrets we learned, the more we realized there’s more to uncover. Here are 10 of the biggest unresolved mysteries in FROM that need to be addressed in Season 5 to complete the narrative in the final season.

1 Julie’s Storywalking Abilities

Season 4 of FROM saw Julie utilize a unique skill that allowed her to travel to different points in time. However, with only a few glimpses into the past, it became apparent how dangerous this ability was to the Matthews’ girl. Her psychic abilities served to dump more trauma, culminating in the viewing of the town’s previous massacre.

Season 5 of FROM will have to address whether these storywalking abilities can truly change history or alter the forthcoming events if she can successfully weaponize herself against the Man in Yellow.

2 Secret of the Talismans

Sheriff Boyd’s discovery of the talismans has been a MacGuffin device that allowed the folk of Fromville to stay alive during the night. Acting as a safeguard, Boyd placed the talismans all over town despite not knowing how they operated. The only things we know are the runic drawings on these talismans and that they originate from a cave.

Why do they keep the people safe in enclosed places? The ending of Season 4 saw Sophia dump all the talismans into the Faraway Tree, leaving the town vulnerable to the creatures in Season 5.

3 The Faraway Tree’s Nature

The Faraway Tree is chaotic and unpredictable. Tabitha was able to use it to actually get away from the looped town, teleporting back to civilization. However, when a resident discovered this, his attempt to escape teleported him inside the concrete.

This became one of the most brutal deaths that made the folk stay away from the tree, adding to the mystery. What are the mechanics of the Faraway Tree, and can it be used as a final resort to escape?

4 Tabitha’s Scarecrow Dolls and Totems

Tabitha realized that she had lived through multiple iterations of the town’s history, having an unexplained connection to the town along with Jade. The Man in Yellow himself confirmed this at the end of FROM Season 4 Episode 8. During the expedition to the Lake of Tears, a group stumbled upon giant scarecrow dolls that came to life at night.

However, they did not operate like the creatures and were able to break into a house to kill and injure. Season 5 needs to address how these scarecrow dolls from Tabitha’s childhood came to be, as well as the totems’ ability to kill the dolls.

5 The Lake of Tears

Ethan was visited by an apparition of Jim following his death. As instructed by this apparition, Ethan and his mother went to the Lake of Tears in FROM Season 4, Episode 4, to figure out Ethan’s visions and connection to the enigmatic lake. This turned out to be a disaster, alluding to the dilemma that the apparition might not be Jim after all.

Even Ethan himself is understandably confused, so what could Ethan’s dream of a woman drowning in the lake actually mean?

6 Victor’s Connection to Fromville

Victor is the only survivor of the previous town’s massacre, marooned to a lonely life throughout his childhood. Revealed as a tragic story, Victor had to learn to survive by himself despite knowing that the threat of the Man in Yellow was omnipresent. Much like the Matthews’ family, his family is also connected to Fromville through supernatural means.

His mother drew visions of the town before they were trapped, and his father also made his way into the town with Tabitha. This adds more enigma to Victor, making this a crucial mystery to solve in Season 5.

7 Bones of the Boy in White

Since the beginning of FROM, we saw Victor and Ethan converse with the Boy in White. Despite appearing sporadically, he does not reveal much when he does. Jade was visited by him during his hallucinogenic trip in Episode 5 of Season 4 and understood that the bones of the Boy in White need to be dug up to escape the town.

Exactly how and why this needs to be done remains a big mystery. The entirety of Season 4 was dedicated to planning the heist, trusting that their “anghkooey” message to “remember” is the key.

8 Fatima’s Transformation and Golem

During the heist at the end of Season 4, a massive twist revealed that Fatima could transform into one of the creatures of the night. The slow transformation of her into a creature was laid out over the past few seasons, starting from her pregnancy, all the way to giving birth to Smiley.

Sophia forces Clara to poison Fatima’s drink, completing the transformation. If this was Sophia’s plan all along, how did Fatima use it to help the group escape the cave during the heist? Another mystery that Season 5 needs to address is the Golem she was building postpartum, with no one knowing if this will help or not.

9 Creatures of the Night

The creatures of the night are one of the biggest horrors in FROM that need to be addressed as soon as possible. The smiling, shapeshifting monsters emerge at dusk, with their true origins remaining a mystery. What we do know is that they dwell in the tunnels underneath, sleeping during the day and torturing victims at night.

With taunts and sharp teeth, their goal is to antagonize the residents to death. Were they a result of the rituals performed in Fromville?

10 Rituals in Fromville

Sophia revealed one crucial info to the audience. The town was built on rituals, and if the residents have any hope of surviving, it’s important to know why they were done. The site of the bones inside the tunnels was a ritual that appears occult in nature. Fromville clearly operates on a set of rules built around the rituals conducted during a different time.

Is there a greater entity that these rituals were performed in honor of, that gave the Man in Yellow his powers? Season 5 should give us a backstory or an explanation of these rituals, and hopefully, Boyd will figure out the next move.
