The Boys series finale episodes started streaming on Prime Video on Wednesday. Eric Kripke’s original show might be coming to an end, but this is not the end of The Boys universe. Kripke is helming a prequel show in the universe, titled Vought Rising, and starring Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy and Aya Cash as Stormfront.

Here’s all you need to know about the prequel show that will follow the fifth and final season of The Boys.
Vought Rising Release Date: When Does the Show Premiere?
There is no official release date announced for Vought Rising. However, according to Eric Kripke, Soldier Boy will be back sooner than we expect after The Boys finale. He shared that fans can expect the show’s premiere in 2027. He told Collider:
There was never any thought of releasing it this year. It’s not so much about the marketing plan as much as it’s gonna take us eight months to just even finish all the VFX. So, we’re not going to be done until November, December at the earliest anyway, and then Amazon needs time to localize it to all the different markets.
Kripke also shared that he had seen cuts of the show “through Episode 7,” further hinting at a potential premiere date: “It might be a couple months into ‘27.”
The series was first announced at the 2024 San Diego Comic-Con. Paul Grellong will serve as the showrunner. Grellong, Kripke, Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, Jensen Ackles, and Aya Cash are among the executive producers of the show.
The series began filming in August 2025 and wrapped production in March 2026. According to the cast and crew, the series is planned to have multiple seasons. Showrunner Grellong is reportedly pitching ideas for a second season already.

Vought Rising Plot: The Boys Prequel Is Set in the 1950s
Jensen Ackles with Jack Quaid in The Boys | Credits: Prime VideoThe upcoming Boys prequel, Vought Rising, is heading way back in time. According to Eric Kripke, the show is set in the 1950s, just after World War II. It will take us to the very beginning of the Vought Corporation and might even address how Compound V, the chemical that creates supes, was first developed.
Kripke described the show as a “twisted murder mystery,” which means it will have a different vibe from the main show. At the center of the story are Soldier Boy in his early days and Stormfront, who was originally known as Clara Vought. Here’s what Kripke shared about the show during its SDCC announcement:
We are excited to bring you the next deranged series from the world of The Boys. It’s a twisted murder mystery about the origins of Vought in the 1950s, the early exploits of Soldier Boy, and the diabolical maneuvers of a Supe known to fans as Stormfront, who was then going by the name Clara Vought. We cannot wait to blow your minds and trouble your souls with this salacious, grisly saga drenched in blood and Compound V.
Showrunner Paul Grellong revealed on his Instagram that the first episode is titled Red Scare. The title could be a nod to the real-life period in the 1940s and 1950s, which saw paranoia and persecution in many parts of the country over communist and socialist movements. Ackles teased his character arc in the show during an interview with Variety, sharing:
I think I’m trying to show a little bit more of an early version of it — not necessarily an innocence to it, but there’s certainly scenes, relationships and character traits that predate how we see him in modern day, and that’s fun to play with.
Kripke addressed the military costumes of the characters in the promotional material. He shared that the supes in the story move from military to private sector, where “things start getting flashier” (via EW). He shared, “It’s less about military discipline and more about consumerism, and then you start to see them evolve that way. It’s really fascinating.”
