The Batman Part 2: Sebastian Stan Officially Compares It To The Greatest Sequel Ever Made

The Batman Part 2, the upcoming Matt Reeves sequel to the 2022 Robert Pattinson-led film, is currently in active production in the U.K. Sebastian Stan is one of the latest additions to the much-anticipated sequel’s lineup. Stan, who is currently promoting Fjord at TIFF, has recently opened up about filming The Batman Part 2.

In an interview with Variety, he compared the sequel to The Godfather Part II, which is highly regarded as one of the best sequels ever made.

Stan, who is one of the rare Marvel stars with a DC debut, noted that Matt Reeves spent three years shaping The Batman Part 2. When asked about the sequel, the actor noted in the Variety interview,

I go to set sometimes and I look around and I’m like, I think we’re making f*cking ‘Godfather Part Two.’ I really don’t want to raise it up, but I do feel like it’s going to be a payoff.

The Francis Ford Coppola sequel starring Al Pacino won six Academy Awards, including Best Director and Best Picture. So, Stan’s comments definitely raise the bar for eager Batman fans.

He recently joined the cast alongside Robert Pattinson, Jeffrey Wright, Colin Farrell, and Andy Serkis. Stan, who is currently filming The Batman Part 2 in London, expressed his enthusiasm about the franchise. He told Variety, “100%. My favorite superhero movie is Batman Returns — I remember exactly where I saw it, over Christmas.” Then he added, “Growing up in Europe, Batman was the most recognizable thing to me.”

What We Know About Sebastian Stan’s Mystery Role in The Batman Sequel

Most of the plot details for the sequel remain largely under wraps, and so does the role Sebastian Stan is playing in The Batman 2. It was widely reported that he will be seen as Harvey Dent; however, there has been no official confirmation yet.

In fact, he has chosen to be vague about it in the Variety interview. He noted that fans need to watch the movie to understand its scale. “Matt has spent three years working on it. There’s a lot of speculation about these roles, about what this movie is, but I think it’s going to be a good payoff — it’s really grounded and real, and that’s what I loved about it. You want to tease it a little, but we still have a long time,” Stan said.

Stan’s addition to the casting was announced in May, when Variety also reported that Scarlett Johansson has joined the movie.
