Ted Lasso’s Season 4 is now underway. Season 3’s conclusion felt like a meaningful and definitive ending. And yet, season 4 is here. But then, we cannot in good conscience complain about more Ted Lasso in our lives, can we? Ted Lasso, for all its sunbelt optimism and Midwestern niceness set against British reserve, understood that a character is only interesting in relation to other characters. And here, we are exploring a list of the 7 best pairings the show has to offer so far. We expect Ted Lasso season 4, whose episodes release weekly, will give us new pairings to love and treasure.

The ranking is simply in order of which duo resonated with me the most. All these pairings, mind you, have enough depth to them that each of these might be turned into a spinoff, and I would love to watch it. Anyhow, without further ado, as you watch Ted Lasso season 4, let’s explore the 7 best duos in the series, ranked from bottom to top. These rankings are based on each duo’s emotional impact, character development, chemistry, and overall contribution to Ted Lasso‘s story.

7 Roy and Phoebe Balanced Tough Love With Tenderness

Roy Kent (Brett Goldstein) has to be one of the show’s most compelling characters with a neat character arc wherein he does not soften so much as he learns to let people in. He does not compromise on who he is. His niece Phoebe (Elodie Blomfield) is perhaps the only person in the world who is not intimidated by him. She also brings out the version of Roy who is warm and friendly, though still carries a scowl.

​For Phoebe, Roy is not a soccer legend. He is just her cranky uncle. She calls him out on his liberal use of swear words without fear, and she is perhaps the only one who can get away with that. It is a sweet dynamic and quite simple. We have only ranked this last because we did not get to see a lot of them throughout the show.

6 Ted and Dr. Sharon Proved the Coach Needed Coaching

Ted Lasso season 1 was brilliant. But there was something off about the perpetual sunniness of Ted (Jason Sudeikis). He was, fans theorized, hiding something behind the optimistic demeanor. More and more, it felt like a defense mechanism. The arrival of Dr. Sharon (Sarah Niles), a therapist, then, felt like a necessary shake-up. She was the first person we met whom Ted failed to win over. ​

She was not simply impressed by him like the others were, for she instantly understood that his smiles were burying a pain deep inside him. Their relationship was frosty at first, but then it developed into a mutual respect and was actually one of the show’s most rewarding arcs. Sadly, Sharon is one of the characters you won’t see in Ted Lasso season 4.

5 Roy and Jamie Turned Rivalry Into Brotherhood

Roy was the aging football legend. Jamie (Phil Dunster) was the young hotshot at the top of his game. Both despised each other. They were bitter rivals, and both had egos the size of the Shard. Thanks to Ted’s prodding and their respective emotional growth, they eventually became fast friends and almost like brothers. They still throw jabs at each other, but by now, it is a love language rather than anything truly hurtful. Their training sessions are some of the most entertaining parts of season 3.

4 Rebecca and Keeley Became Each Other’s Found Family

Believable female friendships are still rare in TV in 2026. Most media reduce them to unnecessary drama. But Ted Lasso introduces one of the healthiest and most supportive female friendships in TV today with Rebecca (Hannah Waddingham) and Keeley (Juno Temple). There is little to no friction, and yet all the same, it remains convincing thanks to great writing and performances. 

Keeley, the younger of the two, helps Rebecca regain her confidence after being cheated on by her ex-husband and experiencing emotional abuse. Rebecca, on her part, becomes a mentor and sounding board. Their bond is one of the strongest in the show. It is a love story, but one that has nothing to do with romance.

3 Ted and Coach Beard Made Silence Its Own Language

Ted and Coach Beard (Brendan Hunt) know each other before the events of the show. They have been together for decades by now. They understand each other so completely that often they do not need to speak to communicate. There are scenes in the show where their conversations take place without a word spoken. 

Coach Beard is integral in the show, and this may be gauged by the fact that he serves as a realist counterbalance against Ted’s constant idealism. When Ted says something to the effect that he does not care whether Richmond loses or wins, Beard bristles. A professional sports league has to win in order to stay afloat. Ideals without results have no meaning. And yet Beard, on his part, understands that Ted’s outlook and emotional intelligence work.

2 Roy and Keeley Defined Love Beyond Happy Endings

After Keeley breaks up with Jamie, she gets together with Roy. Their relationship works (to a point, at least) because they encourage each other to chase bigger dreams. And sometimes love gets in the way of your ambition, and it is always hard to choose. Both remain emotionally honest even when their bond becomes difficult to sustain. Their eventual breakup hurts, but we, the audience, realize there is no villain in this story. There was no place for a happily-ever-after here. Even if it did not last forever, this relationship was meaningful.

1 Ted and Rebecca Built Trust Against All Odds

Rebecca hires Ted, an American football coach, only to sabotage the team that used to be her husband’s. Ted is only a pawn in her revenge scheme. But once she realizes who Ted is, her emotional walls break, and she genuinely begins to care for the team. Ted’s relentless kindness is too much for her. It began as a manipulative relationship between a manager and her coach. But it soon evolves into one of TV’s most heartfelt platonic relationships. Ted and Rebecca are the best duo simply because the entire show is built around their bond. If it had not worked, the show itself would not have worked. Every other relationship appears to radiate outward from the trust Ted and Rebecca cultivate together. They are also, easily, two of the best characters in the Ted Lasso show.
