Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s recent UK trip has exposed a glaring flaw in their demand for their security to be restored, according to a royal expert.
The expert shared that the couple’s successful meeting with King Charles has shown that the duke’s constant bickering on security is uncalled for, as his family can quietly go in and out of the country without being photographed or hounded by the media, like their recent trip.
Prince Harry has always complained about how he doesn’t feel safe in the UK after his police protection was withdrawn, and declared he would never bring his wife and kids over if it’s not restored.
Prince Harry Complained Over His Security Situation In The UK
MEGAHarry made headlines for months in the buildup to his UK trip, complaining about his security fears and the safety of his family should they go with him. He even made a request for 24/7 police protection while in the country, but the appeal was rejected by RAVEC, which reportedly left him feeling “distraught,” per the BBC.
Before then, he’d been involved in a court case with RAVEC as he sought the reinstatement of his taxpayers-funded security details in the UK, despite leaving his royal role and relocating abroad with his family.
He eventually touched down on British soil earlier this month and hit the ball rolling immediately, attending several scheduled charity engagements and an event marking the one-year countdown to the 2027 Invictus Games in Birmingham.
His wife Meghan and their children Archie and Lilibet eventually joined him at some point, and together, they met with King Charles and Queen Camilla at Highgrove for what was described as a private family moment.
Buckingham Palace only confirmed the meeting in a statement after it had long been concluded, and to this day, no photo from it has emerged; neither was it known when Harry’s household members entered the UK, nor where they traveled from.
The Sussexes’ Meeting With King Charles Only Proves The ‘Drama’ Over Security Was Blown Out Of Proportion
MEGAMeanwhile, the situation has left royal experts suggesting that the whole fiasco about his security situation might be a stretch and that the best way for Harry to go about his trips to his home country is to keep his cards close to his heart.
During a recent appearance on “Palace Confidential,” Richard Kay suggested that the way the Sussexes handled things has laid the blueprint for their future visit and just goes to show how much the “drama” over their safety was exaggerated.
“Harry and Meghan can come in and depart the United Kingdom whenever they like,” Editor-at-Large Kay noted. “We don’t see photographs of them – unless they want to be photographed. They make such a drama about all of this, and yet the public don’t need to know.”
“By and large, they can slip in and out. All this talk that Harry’s in danger and he needs this wraparound security – well, anonymity is the best form of security of all. No one can cause them harm,” he continued. “I know that sounds slightly glib, but I think it’s an important part of this whole package.”
The editor then added that the fact no one knows where they came from nor when they landed is “absolutely proof positive that they are able to drop in and drop out of the UK as they please.”
Queen Camilla’s Place In Prince Harry’s Reunion Quest Brought Into Focus
Steven Bergman/AFF-USA.COM / MEGA Before the meeting, speculations were rife that other senior royal members would not be in attendance, especially Prince William and Queen Camilla, whom Harry has said hurtful things towards in the past.
However, the Queen was reportedly a steady presence in all of it and has even been tipped to be a key factor in Harry’s quest for peace with his father.
Kay, however, speculated that she was only there on her “husband’s orders,” playing the role of “referee” in the way things went down, per the Daily Mail.
“You can understand why Camilla would have wanted to support Charles. I don’t know whether she actually wanted to meet Harry and Meghan, with all the water that’s gone under the bridge,” he said.
“She’s got a very good reason not to want to spend any time in the same room as him. However, she is an important referee… if Harry had tried to persuade his father to do something he was reluctant to, she would have wanted to make sure she was a witness to it all,” the veteran royal reporter added.
The Meeting Reportedly Didn’t Go As The Sussexes Had Planned
ZUMAPRESS.com / MEGAAlthough both parties have remained tight-lipped on the events that went down, there are talks suggesting it was a “mess” and that the Sussexes didn’t get what they wanted.
TalkTV host Kevin O’Sullivan addressed the chatter while pointing out how the silence over Meghan and the kids’ trip worked out well.
“But it was all just a mess, wasn’t it?” he commented, per the Express.
Royal biographer Angela Levin agreed with him, citing sources who purportedly told her what the atmosphere in that room felt like.
“It was a mess. What is very interesting about it is, the King insisted Camilla would be with him. Camilla is very particular about how people talk to him and particularly Harry,” she said.
“The two of them could not do what they wanted,” Levin noted, adding, “Harry had sent in a list of what he wanted. He stayed in one of the palaces. Everything was going to be what they wanted. They didn’t get a thing.”
Prince Harry And Meghan Markle’s Reunion With The Monarch Wasn’t ‘Entirely Warm And Fuzzy’
MEGAIn a chat with Page Six, another royal expert spoke about the recent meeting, noting that the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan, likely didn’t have the best time during the reunion.
Addressing the dynamics behind closed doors, author Christopher Andersen said: “One gets the sense that, from Meghan’s perspective, the reunion with Charles and Camilla wasn’t entirely warm and fuzzy.”
According to Andersen, the Duchess has a strong preference for the peace of her California home. She is also said to be deeply averse to the idea that joining Prince Harry and their children for the UK trip might be misread by the public as a sign that she wants to reconcile with the monarchy.
As Andersen explained, “It’s fairly clear that Markle feels more secure in [her home] in Montecito, and doesn’t want to give the impression that she will be any part of a return to royal life.”
Royal sources have since called out the author’s comment, noting that he could not have known what happened during the reunion, as it was a “private family-only meeting.”
