Recently, the Anyone But You alum posted a series of pictures on Instagram, giving everybody a small sneak peek into a project she’s currently working on. Sydney Sweeney mentioned that she couldn’t keep things under wraps any longer because of the paparazzi.

Sweeney, who recently acted in the American horror film Immaculate, and also in Eden starring alongside Ana de Armas, claimed she was working on a biopic about Christy Martin. In her Instagram post, she said,

Over the past few months, I’ve been immersed in training to bring to life the story of an incredible woman… a true champion who fought battles both inside and outside the ring.

Sweeney stated that Martin is a true testament to “resilience, strength, and hope” and that she’s truly honored to step into the legendary Hall of Fame boxer’s shoes in the untitled film.

The actress got rid of her blonde locks while rocking a dark brown mullet for Martin’s biopic. What shocked the entire world was how bulked up and fighter-esque she looked. You can literally see her biceps popping out, it’s insane!

Actors tend to push their bodies to their absolute limits to bring out the best versions of the characters they’re tasked to portray on film. We’ve witnessed actors like Christian Bale and Joaquin Phoenix lose a ton of weight to bring out far more realistic versions of their characters.

In this case, Sydney Sweeney has certainly put in a ton of effort to achieve peak physical fitness. While speaking to The Los Angeles Times, Sweeney expressed her willingness to go the extra mile especially if it ensures authenticity. She said,

It’s always whether it serves the character or not… I’m living someone else’s life. So if it serves to the development or the emotional state of a character, then it makes sense. It just depends on the character. I truly just look at everything like that.

Christy Martin’s career spanned between 1989 and 2012, during which she won 49 of her 59 professional bouts while achieving 31 knockouts in the squared circle. The former super welterweight champion was tragically stabbed multiple times and shot by her husband, who is currently serving a 25-year prison sentence (via Variety).

Variety claims that the movie is being directed by David Michod, who is most known for working on movies like Animal Kingdom, War Machine, The Rover, and The King. The biopic will also feature Ben Foster as Martin’s husband, James Martin, as well as Merritt Weaver, Katy O’Brien, Ethan Embry, Jess Gabor, Chad L. Coleman, and Tony Cavalero.
