South Park Creators Officially Confirm Mystery Kendrick Lamar Movie Future

Trey Parker and Matt Stone, the creators of South Park, have finally broken their silence on a question fans have been asking for far too long. The duo has finally spilled the future of the mysterious project they have been collaborating with Kendrick Lamar on. In a statement to The Ankler, Parker and Stone confirmed they “still believe” in the movie, which is known internally as Whitney Springs.

According to The Ankler, Lamar had already recorded a few originals for the much-anticipated musical comedy, which is currently in production at Paramount.

Parker and Stone issued an apology for keeping fans waiting. “We take full responsibility for the schedule delay of this movie,” they said in the statement to The Ankler. The South Park co-creators added,

We apologize to our partners at pgLang and Paramount, and we appreciate their patience. ‘South Park’ and life’s circumstances have gotten in the way, but we still believe in the project.

Their Park County banner is currently helming the project, along with Paramount, which also houses South Park.

According to Variety, initial loglines said Whitney Springs will tell the story of a Black man who works as a slave reenactor at a living history museum. He discovers that the family of his white girlfriend once partook in the slavery of his ancestors.

However, The Ankler published a different version of the story. According to the outlet, the musical comedy follows a Black man working as a slave reenactor, who clashes with the mayor of a Midwestern town. Parker will take on the racist mayor’s role.

Despite the excitement, the movie has faced several hurdles ever since production began. Initially, Whitney Springs was set to release on July 4, 2025. However, it was later postponed due to Lamar’s tour, as well as South Park’s workflow.

Then, it was planned for a March 20, 2026, release. Last November, The Hollywood Reporter reported that the planned theatrical release was canceled, as it was pulled from the calendar.

South Park producer Vernon Chatman, who penned the script for the planned feature, said in November, “We’re working hard at finishing the movie.” Former Paramount film chief Brian Robbins also expressed excitement about the film. Back in 2024, he described the work-in-progress as “one of the funniest and most original scripts we’ve ever read.”

Kendrick Lamar is also producing Whitney Springs alongside Dave Free through PgLang.
