Aaron Rodgers has made a shocking claim about his ex-fiancée, Shailene Woodley. During a recent podcast, Rodgers has finally broken his silence on their split, alleging that Woodley wanted to sleep with someone else before getting married. He also noted that the actress might have felt forced into accepting his proposal. “She could have said no,” said Rodgers.

The 42-year-old athlete appeared on the September 10 episode of the Not Just Football With Cam Heyward podcast. While talking about his family dynamics, he briefly discussed the long-rumored split from Woodley. The former couple hadn’t really opened up about the reason before. On Thursday, Rodgers said, “I propose, and she says yes. She maybe felt like she was forced to make a decision. She could have said no.“

But not a couple days after that, she tells me, you know, ‘Before we get married I got to go f— this guy.’

His account is quite different from what Woodley herself said about the breakup. She described their relationship as a “toxic situation.” In the process, she claimed to have lost her soul and joy.

Rodgers completely disputed Woodley’s claims about the split. “Her story is that I ruined her life and gave her a crazy depression because I left her,” he said, describing the narrative as “just not true.” On the podcast, the Super Bowl star further lamented,

But the actuality is, she told me that then she took off the ring by March. So I proposed in December, [she] took out the ring by March. And we had a couple of times where we tried to, you know, get reunited, and nothing ever happened.

According to him, their relationship began going downhill long before they officially parted ways. He claimed, “There wasn’t even a relationship in ‘22 to break off. She literally told me, ‘I don’t want to be with you,’ after we tried to have some sort of reconciliation in 2021.”

While Rodgers pinned the blame on Woodley, the Paradise star actually claimed that the breakup impacted her mental health. She first spoke about it in December 2024. During a conversation with Outside, the Emmy-winning star said, “

I haven’t shared much about my relationship with Aaron because it always makes me cry. It was not right. But it was beautiful.

However, she has refrained from giving further details about the circumstances of their breakup. She told the outlet, “I had a really awful, traumatic thing happen in early 2022. I felt like I lost my soul, my self, my happiness, my joy, I really understood depression and anxiety and, like, complete soul detachment.”

Rodgers and Woodley began dating around July 2020. In April 2022, they officially called it quits.
