10 Years After Central Intelligence, Kevin Hart Returns With Another Espionage Banger With Henry Cavill

Kevin Hart was spotted alongside Henry Cavill outside a private home in Glen Ridge, New Jersey, where cameras rolled for their new Netflix spy thriller. According to the report from Essex Local, chairs on the Glen Ridge set carried the words “The Serpent and the Snake” alongside a graphic of two spies with weapons drawn.

Whether that’s the finished title or just a production code name is anyone’s guess. Meanwhile, the project has been floating around under the working name Spy Duo since May. The movie began production across New Jersey in August and is scheduled to wrap in November.

For Hart, this is familiar ground. He played an ordinary man dragged into the spy world of guns and secrets in 2016’s Central Intelligence, where he starred alongside Dwayne Johnson. A decade on, he’s doing it again, with a different giant beside him.

What Is Kevin Hart and Henry Cavill’s Netflix Spy Movie About?

The setup is the most intriguing thing about this spy movie. Kevin Hart and Henry Cavill play rival spies who happen to end up in the same Lamaze class with their wives. The trouble starts when their wives hit it off and become close friends.

From there, the two men’s double lives crash into each other in ways that are both funny and dangerous. They are forced into an uneasy alliance while they both prepare for fatherhood. It’s a domestic sitcom premise wearing a spy thriller’s suit.

Jason Isaacs, Justine Lupe, and Aja Naomi King have all joined the cast, though Netflix hasn’t said who they’re playing. Hart and Cavill’s other character details are being kept quiet too. Production has already turned up in a few corners of New Jersey. Beyond the Glen Ridge house, the crew spent time shooting inside Delicious Orchards, a farm market in Colts Neck (via New Jersey 101.5).

No release date has been announced. With filming ending in November, sometime in 2027 looks likely.

Who Is Behind This Espionage Movie?

McG is directing, and the genre suits him. He broke through with Charlie’s Angels in 2000, and later made the spy-comedy This Means War with Chris Pine and Tom Hardy. He has spent recent years working steadily with Netflix on films like The Babysitter.

The script comes from an unusually crowded room. Jonathan Tropper, who wrote The Adam Project, shares credit with brothers Adam and Aaron Nee, the pair behind The Lost City. Lizzie and Wendy Molyneux were also recently given writer credits. The movie is based on a short story by Sean Lewis.

The producing list is where it gets loud. Shawn Levy and Dan Levine are on board through 21 Laps, Ryan Reynolds is producing via Maximum Effort, and Hart produces through his own Hartbeat banner. McG is also one of the producers.

That’s a lot of action-comedy pedigree pointed at one film. Whether all of it adds up is a 2027 problem. For now, New Jersey gets to keep spotting Superman in the produce aisle.
