The 48th Highlanders of Canada has performed at the opening night of the Toronto Maple Leafs games for 95 years, starting in 1931. Seeing them march onto the ice playing The Maple Leaf Forever is a very moving moment. The current Rogers network does not show this on its TV coverage. Shame on them. Another Canadian tradition being muted.

CARELESS CARNEY
Re “Higher immigration is a looming disaster” (Editorial, Oct. 1): This government pushing to bring in more humans when we cannot support those already here is folly. Mark Carney must be rubbing his hands together. At this time, more tax money collected and wasted on our bloated government is the only thing expanded immigration will bring. Carney, the supposed environmentalist, also knows pollution rates rise in lockstep with population levels. My opinion is that he does not care about people or the environment. Just money.

NOT THE ANSWER WE NEED
In a recent interview with the New York Times, Prime Minister Mark Carney announced that it was time to ramp up immigration because the Liberals have taken measures to get the mess left by excessive immigration under Justin Trudeau fixed and that it is now under control. The first thought that comes to mind is that definition of insanity, whereby repeating failed past actions will lead to different outcomes! The fact of the matter is we still do not have the hard and soft infrastructure like housing, medical practitioners, and social supports and agencies to service a cranked-up immigration system. Let’s fix that problem before making the situation worse. By example, currently in this country we have about six million residents without a primary health care physician and such things as long wait times for various medical procedures are well-documented.
