Iman Vellani Officially Supports the Most Polarizing Avengers Movie That Divided Fans

Iman Vellani and Frank Alvarez recently sat down for a conversation about Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Age of Ultron on the Avengers: Doomsday official podcast. During the conversation, the Marvel actress revealed that Age of Ultron was the first movie she watched in theatres, as she initially started as an Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. fan. She explained how the Age of Ultron movie holds special significance for its “beautiful character moments, laying the foundation for Tony Stark and Captain America’s journey in Civil War. Iman Vellani stated:

The concept of AI, this movie was ahead of its time. I felt like really excited watching so many of these great scenes, and like, oh my God, that scene with all of them trying to lift Mjolnir. We get so many great lines… I think like this movie is really rewarding to watch again now, like, having seen where the MCU has landed.

Frank Alvarez made a statement about the movie being the only movie that people have “visited the least amount.” Iman Vellani praised the movie for its plot, character development, the return of Fury, and what it “takes to lift Mjolnir.” Frank Alvarez expressed similar sentiments, while pointing out how this is the only movie where Marvel fans can see the entire team storming the HYDRA base.

What Makes Avengers: Age of Ultron a Pivotal Movie in the Marvel Universe?

During the podcast conversation, Frank Alvarez points out that Avengers: Age of Ultron was the only movie where the team seems to be stronger than ever, which changes as the movie franchise progresses. Iman explained how, in this movie, Captain America still doubts Stark’s intentions and whether he will lay down his life for the welfare of others. Rogers’ doubts are finally answered in a rather poignant manner in Avengers: Endgame. Her perspective also highlights the initial resentment that Tony Stark had for Rogers. Iman aptly highlighted the difference in opinion between Stark and Rogers as she said:

It sets you up for Civil War so perfectly. Cap may not understand tech, but he understands people.

Iman Vellani stressed the importance of the movie, in which viewers get to know more about Vibranium and Wakanda, and how Ultron never liked being compared to Stark.  Iman’s focus on the role of Vision playing a pivotal part in the Marvel Universe might be a reference to Paul Bettany’s possible return in the upcoming movies. The actor has recently teased his potential appearance in Avengers: Doomsday or the movie Avengers: Secret Wars on the Happy Sad Confused podcast.

Iman Vellani and Frank Alvarez Discuss Vision’s Character Arc

After talking about how the movie reflects the clash between Captain America and Tony Stark, Iman Vellani and Frank Alvarez talked about Paul Bettany’s role as Vision. Iman Vellani talked about Vision and the Mind Stone’s importance in the course of the movie, and asked Frank for his favourite “Vision moment.” Frank Alvarez replied:

It was such a small moment… But when he burns the internet out of Ultron’s head.

Frank Alvarez pointed out that Vision’s humanity is what became the thin line between him and Ultron. Iman pointed out how Vision played a pivotal role in showing the other people how to grow from their individual contradictions and how he becomes more human with time in the movie.

Iman Vellani soon surprised Frank Alvarez by asking Paul Bettany himself about which part of Vision’s journey he connected with the most; Bettany explained he connected with the aspect that the “journey of acceptance of each other” had something to do with his life.

The actor further admitted that he absolutely loved working with James Spader. The second-best memory the actor recalled from the movie is when Robert Downey Jr. welcomed him on The Avengers, but he couldn’t hear it properly due to the costume.
