The Blood of Dawnwalker Already Has a Mod That Triples the In-Game Quest Timer

The Blood of Dawnwalker came out just a day ago, but PC players are already changing one of its main mechanics. In the new action RPG by Rebel Wolves, players have a 30-day deadline to rescue Coen’s family, and every quest, ability, and other activity consumes portions of that limited time.

The timer is clearly designed to encourage us to make meaningful choices about how we spend time in the game. But it seems like not everyone is interested in playing under that pressure. Within hours of launch, a mod called Better Story Timer was already out, and it changes the game’s time restrictions.

Better Story Timer Gives Players 90 Days to Complete the Main Quest

The Better Story Timer mod is very straightforward. It increases the 30-day main quest timer in The Blood of Dawnwalker to 90 days. That’s effectively three times the amount of time provided by the base game.

The mod was uploaded when the game was launched and was already updated later that same day, with the latest version listed as 1.4 and marked as compatible with game version 1.0.2.

The 90-day option isn’t the only change available. The mod also has an option that removes the time cost associated with perks and skills. Players still have to pay the other costs associated with these upgrades, but visiting shrines and spending ability points no longer eats into the game’s clock.

A third option increases the number of time segments in each day from eight to 32 and adjusts the length of half-days used by certain quests. However, Caites specifically warns that this version hasn’t been fully tested, so players may want to stick with the more straightforward 90-day modification.

The response has been substantial for a mod released so quickly. The Nexus Mods page has recorded more than 26,000 total downloads and nearly 14,000 unique downloads, making Better Story Timer the most popular mod for the game so far.

Does The Blood of Dawnwalker’s Timer Actually Need Changing?

So the question is raised. Do we really need to change one of the core features of the game? The 30-day countdown sounds restrictive on paper, but the game is generally quite generous with the amount of time it gives players.

Completing quests, leveling up, and various optional activities consume time segments, meaning that we can’t simply explore every corner of the world without considering the consequences. However, reaching the end of the 30 days isn’t game over either. Instead, failing to complete the objective in time means Coen won’t be able to save his family.

So it ultimately depends on the kind of player you are. If you just focus on the story, the timer won’t be too hard to manage, but those who want to explore extensively, hunt monsters, clear enemy camps, or do other side content may feel greater pressure.

Better Story Timer ultimately changes a mechanic that is deliberately meant to influence how players approach the game. With 90 days available, much of that pressure disappears, allowing players to explore Vale Sangora and pursue side content with considerably fewer consequences.

Of course, that’s precisely why some players are using it. But there’s also the argument that modifying the timer immediately undermines one of the game’s main features. If you’re curious about the game’s intended experience, it may therefore be worth playing without modifications first.
