The wait for the next Game of Thrones book is long and exhausting, but that’s not the only A Song of Ice and Fire installment that hasn’t come out in years. In fact, we used to get those stunning and colorful graphic novels back in the days, but why aren’t they producing anymore of those?
Perhaps it is every fan’s sentiment that they need to release more of these comic book-style novels. It was upsetting that the last one they published was A Clash of Kings: The Graphic Novel: Volume Four in 2022. Since then, we haven’t received any new updates.
In this list, we are ranking all Game of Thrones books, per editorial opinion, that deserve their own graphic novel. Seeing that this is a continuous story, it would only make sense to pick up where the last comics left off.
4 Fire & Blood: Dragonfire & Valyrian Legacy Are Made For The Page
Fire & Blood / Credits: HarperVoyagerDon’t you think all those dragons in George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood would look breathtaking in colored illustrations? The regal look of House Targaryen’s wardrobe would also stand out when drawn in pages, and this is why it deserves its own graphic novel.
This, however, could wait for a bit. Most fans would rather see A Song of Ice and Fire books get their own graphic novel adaptation since Dynamite Entertainment already started with the first two installments. The prequel book saga is also not yet finished; Martin still needs to write the second volume, and it’s more of a priority than this one.
3 A Dance With Dragons’ Scope & Scale Deserves a Graphic Retelling
A Dance With Dragons / Credits: BantamThe massive storyline we have here is perfectly tailored for a solid, detailed illustration. Daenerys Targaryen conquering the Free Cities in Essos with her dragons and army, the battle preparation happening against the wintery backdrop of the North, and the controversial trial of Cersei Lannister in King’s Landing absolutely make a graphic novel so hard to put down!
The comics, while truly intriguing to see on glossy pages, is a low-priority task at this moment. It would take a lot of time to produce this anyway, given the scope and scale of the plot. Fans would surely want something closer to the original book, so proper planning is greatly important to do the story justice.
2 A Feast For Crows’ Underrated Plot Belongs In Panels and Ink
A Feast For Crows / Credits: BantamMany fans have mixed feelings about this book, especially because it didn’t have huge battles and shocking plot twists, but rather an exploration of the aftermath of war. It also didn’t feature the major players in the story, but that doesn’t mean it didn’t set up for anything.
A graphic novel version can make the politics of Westeros come alive. A Feast For Crows is the most introspective installment in the series, and a graphic adaptation could do well in emphasizing the nuances of characters, making their thoughts and emotions feel immediate and tangible. Indeed, Martin and his team need to work on this so fans can finally see the story brought vividly to life in graphic form.
1 A Storm of Swords’ Peak Chapters Look More Intense In Rich Colors
It’s been years since the last installment of ASOIAF graphic novels was published, and it’s high time they resumed printing. We need to see the continuation of the saga and pick up where A Clash of Kings ended.
The entire fandom knows just how much this book deserves to be told in colored pages. The Red Wedding? The Purple Wedding? Oberyn Martell and The Mountain’s duel? All these and more are the very reasons we need a comics version as soon as possible! Its popularity and impact would make for a great engagement, especially since the book coming after this is a bit slow-paced.
