Dragon Ball Super: Beerus revisits Goku’s iconic battle against the God of Destruction, but the enhanced anime leaves one major development from Dragon Ball Daima unacknowledged. Goku unlocked Super Saiyan 4 during his climactic battle against Third Eye Gomah, yet the Battle of Gods storyline continues to follow his familiar progression from Super Saiyan 3 to Super Saiyan God. This omission raises questions about the connection between the two anime and whether the franchise intends to incorporate Goku’s newest transformation into its ongoing continuity.
The timing is particularly interesting because Daima concluded shortly before the enhanced Beerus project arrived. Toei Animation had an opportunity to acknowledge the transformation without changing the original story’s outcome. Instead, Goku’s Super Saiyan 4 remains absent, creating a noticeable gap between two major chapters of his animated journey.
Dragon Ball Super: Beerus Leaves Goku’s Super Saiyan 4 Unused
When Goku first challenges Beerus in Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods, even Super Saiyan 3 proves insufficient against the God of Destruction. His overwhelming strength leaves Goku struggling until the discovery of Super Saiyan God gives the Saiyan a new way to challenge his opponent. However, Dragon Ball Daima has since introduced another powerful transformation. During his battle against Third Eye Gomah, Goku unlocks Super Saiyan 4 and gains the strength to fight back against his formidable opponent. The transformation becomes one of Daima’s defining moments, making its absence from Dragon Ball Super: Beerus particularly noticeable.
The timing makes the omission frustrating. With Daima concluding before Dragon Ball Super: Beerus arrived, Toei Animation had an opportunity to acknowledge Goku’s latest transformation in its enhanced retelling. Even a brief reference could have connected the two productions without fundamentally changing the original confrontation.
Goku did not necessarily need to use Super Saiyan 4 against Beerus. The discovery of Super Saiyan God remains central to the story, establishing the foundation for Goku’s journey into divine power. Nevertheless, leaving his newest transformation completely unacknowledged makes the revamped storyline feel disconnected from a major development in his animated history.
Dragon Ball Super: Beerus Further Messes Up Daima’s Canon Timeline

Dragon Ball Daima takes place after the defeat of Majin Buu and before the events of Dragon Ball Super, placing Goku’s Super Saiyan 4 transformation before his encounter with Beerus in the broader timeline. Consequently, Dragon Ball Super: Beerus revisits a point in Goku’s life after he has already unlocked Super Saiyan 4, yet the story continues without acknowledging that achievement. Although the original Battle of Gods storyline predates Daima, the enhanced edition has an opportunity to incorporate developments introduced by the newer anime.
This creates an awkward continuity issue. Super Saiyan 4 is not an incidental power-up; it represents the culmination of Goku’s battle against Gomah. Leaving it unmentioned when revisiting a later point in his life makes the connection between the two stories harder to follow. There is, however, a difference between a continuity omission and a direct contradiction. Goku’s failure to use Super Saiyan 4 against Beerus does not automatically invalidate Daima. Characters do not necessarily use every available transformation in every battle, and Super Saiyan God remains central to the encounter.
The bigger problem is the lack of connective storytelling. A simple reference to Goku’s battle against Gomah could have acknowledged Daima without undermining the significance of Super Saiyan God or changing the outcome of the confrontation. Ultimately, Dragon Ball Super: Beerus further complicates Daima’s place in the franchise’s continuity by leaving Super Saiyan 4 unacknowledged. The omission makes the connection between the two anime feel less cohesive, leaving fans wondering whether Toei Animation will ever properly reconcile Goku’s latest transformation with his journey toward godly power.
