Charlie Cox’s days as the Man Without Fear may not be numbered after all. Although Marvel has confirmed that Daredevil: Born Again will conclude with its third season, Marvel Television chief Brad Winderbaum has suggested that Matt Murdock’s MCU journey could continue beyond the Disney+ series. Speaking on The Brandon Davis Show, Winderbaum explained that Marvel envisioned Born Again as a three-season companion to the original Netflix series, rather than necessarily the character’s final chapter.
The plan was always to culminate at 3.
He added that Marvel would then “take a breath and figure out what’s next for the character,” according to MCU Direct’s report of the interview. The comments offer some reassurance after Marvel confirmed that Daredevil: Born Again would conclude with Season 3. However, Winderbaum has not confirmed another Daredevil series, a solo movie, or Cox’s next MCU appearance. The distinction matters: the show is ending, but Marvel hasn’t definitively retired its blind vigilante.
Why Is Daredevil: Born Again Ending After Season 3?
Credits: Disney+Brad Winderbaum’s explanation frames the decision as a creative conclusion rather than a permanent farewell. The original Netflix Daredevil ran for three seasons between 2015 and 2018, while Born Again will complete another three-season cycle. The executive compared the two runs to separate comic-book collections, each telling a distinct chapter of Matt Murdock’s life. Nevertheless, the decision has raised eyebrows. Marvel previously discussed making Born Again an annually returning series, and its third-season renewal was announced in September 2025 (per The Wrap).
The subsequent ending announcement also followed the departure of showrunner Dario Scardapane, whose contract was not renewed. The final season, expected in March 2027, will bring Matt’s story to a particularly precarious crossroads. With Matt’s relationship to the law increasingly complicated and Wilson Fisk’s (Vincent D’Onofrio) influence continuing to shape his future, Season 3 places the vigilante in another dangerous predicament.
Speaking at New York Comic Con, Cox described Matt’s emotional condition, according to ComingSoon:
He’s still tormented.
That predicament gives Season 3 a compelling narrative challenge: can Matt reclaim his life when both his secret identity and legal career have been compromised? The finale will also reunite the Defenders, with Krysten Ritter returning as Jessica Jones, Mike Colter as Luke Cage, and Finn Jones as Iron Fist. Marvel previewed their reunion at New York Comic Con, as detailed by Entertainment Weekly.
Could Charlie Cox Get a Daredevil Movie Next?
Charlie Cox in Daredevil: Born Again (2025) | Image via Disney+Cox has already appeared outside his solo series, including his cameo in Spider-Man: No Way Home. That leaves Marvel several possibilities for bringing Matt Murdock back. A standalone movie would be exciting, especially after the Defenders’ reunion. We would also love to see the street-level heroes interact with more of the MCU. However, neither project has been announced. Winderbaum’s comments suggest Marvel is open to continuing Matt’s story, but they don’t establish where Cox will appear next.
At New York Comic Con, the actor himself expressed cautious optimism about returning. Asked whether audiences had seen Matt for the last time, he told ScreenRant, as reported by SuperHeroHype:
I think there will be something.
A standalone Daredevil film or a Defenders ensemble movie could capitalize on the reunited cast and their grounded corner of the MCU. Such a project could also explore the consequences of Matt’s exposed identity without requiring another full television season. However, Marvel has announced neither a Daredevil movie nor a new Defenders project. Winderbaum’s remarks indicate that the studio intends to consider the character future, not that a specific production has received the green light.
For now, the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen has one final Disney+ season ahead of him. Whether his next battle unfolds on television or the big screen, Marvel has left the door ajar.
