In the world of anime, there are some fighters who can go from being average to unstoppable simply through sheer physical effort alone. The Eight Gates technique from Naruto is one such ability, most prominently used by Might Guy against Madara Uchiha, turning a trained ninja into a terrifying powerhouse at a terrible physical cost.
But how well would Hunter x Hunter characters fare if they had access to such a powerful technique? There are quite a number of characters with enough strength, speed, and willpower to take up this challenge, although they require far more than just strength in order to master it. Here is our list.
7 Phinks’ Ripper Cyclotron Could Make the Eight Gates Even Deadlier
Phinks Magcub from Hunter x Hunter. | Credit: MadhousePhinks is already a frightening fighter, and the Chimera Ant arc shows why. His Nen ability, Ripper Cyclotron, lets him increase the power of his punch by rotating his arm repeatedly. The more he winds up, the stronger the attack becomes. Now imagine combining that power with the physical boost of Naruto‘s Eight Gates!
However, the mechanics of the Eight Gates introduce a severe tactical drawback: internal recoil. The Gates continuously tear muscle fibers and strain the cardiovascular system, meaning Phinks would be fighting against a rapidly draining clock while trying to wind up his strikes. If he misjudges his rotations or faces an opponent who can evade his linear assault, the Gates’ self-inflicted damage would break his body before he can land a decisive blow. That structural vulnerability lands him at number seven.
6 Killua’s Godspeed Gives Him the Reflexes to Push the Gates
Killua from Hunter x Hunter. | Credit: MadhouseKillua’s biggest advantage isn’t just his speed. It’s his ability to react almost instantly. His Godspeed ability lets him move at incredible speeds and automatically respond to threats. Moreover, his assassin training also taught him how to control his body under pressure.
The Eight Gates would make Killua even more dangerous in close combat, especially if he combined Godspeed with powerful kicks and punches. However, Godspeed already has its own limits. Adding the Gates’ physical damage could make prolonged fights extremely risky. He’s sixth because his reflexes are outstanding, but surviving the technique is another challenge.
5 Silva’s Assassin Training Could Help Him Survive the Gates’ Strain
Silva Zoldyck from Hunter x Hunter. | Credit: MadhouseSilva Zoldyck isn’t someone who relies on flashy movements alone. As the head of the Zoldyck family, he has spent years developing his strength, combat skills, and killing techniques. His fight against Chrollo, shown in the Yorknew City arc, also highlights his experience against dangerous Nen users.
That background could help Silva approach the Eight Gates with discipline rather than simply unleashing everything at once. He would likely understand the value of timing and knowing when to stop. That is why Silva takes the fifth spot since the philosophy of Zoldycks values life and efficiency above all, leaving him just behind those whose philosophy involves taking their body beyond the normal limit.
4 Gon Has Already Risked His Life for Power Like the Eighth Gate
Adult Gon from a still. | Credit: MadhouseGon is perhaps the clearest example of someone willing to sacrifice everything for power. In Episode 131 of the anime, during the Chimera Ant arc, he makes a terrible vow to gain the strength needed to defeat Neferpitou. His forced transformation gives him overwhelming power, but the cost nearly destroys him.
That moment makes Gon a natural candidate for the Eight Gates. He has the determination to push past every warning his body gives him, and his physical talent is remarkable. However, his transformation also shows his biggest weakness – he can lose sight of his own survival. He ranks fourth because his potential is enormous, but reckless determination isn’t the same as mastering a technique.
3 Uvogin’s Raw Strength Is Built to Tank the Gates’ Extreme Force
Uvogin from Hunter x Hunter. | Credit: MadhouseUvogin is one of the strongest members of the Phantom Troupe, and his battle against the Shadow Beasts in the Yorknew City arc shows just how much punishment he can endure. Even after being poisoned and injured, he remains terrifyingly powerful. His Enhancement Nen also suits a fighting style built around overwhelming physical force.
The Eight Gates could turn Uvogin into an absolute powerhouse. His powerful punches would become even more destructive, while his durability might help him handle the strain of the lower gates. Still, he takes third place because his raw strength is exceptional, but he lacks Netero’s proven level of dedicated speed training.
2 Biscuit Knows How to Push the Human Body to Its Limits
Biscuit Krueger with Gon and Killua from Hunter x Hunter. | Credit: MadhouseBiscuit Krueger might look harmless at first, but that impression disappears quickly. During the Greed Island arc, she trains Gon and Killua relentlessly, helping them improve their Nen control, stamina, and combat skills. Her real muscular form also reveals just how powerful she is beneath her usual appearance.
What makes Biscuit such a strong candidate is her understanding of training. The Eight Gates aren’t simply about becoming stronger overnight; they require careful conditioning and control over the body’s limits. She ranks second because her training expertise is a major advantage, although Netero’s personal feats give him the edge.
1 Netero’s Relentless Training Makes Him the Ideal Eight Gates Master
Isaac Netero is the strongest candidate for a reason. Chapter 265 of the manga reveals his extraordinary training routine – he performed 10,000 punches of gratitude every day. Years of repetition sharpened his speed and technique to an incredible level.
Netero’s mastery of martial arts, discipline, and body control makes him the best fit for the Eight Gates. His fight against Meruem in the Chimera Ant arc also shows how quickly he can unleash attacks, even against an opponent with incredible reflexes. While the Eighth Gate’s fatal cost would remain a serious problem, Netero has the strongest combination of training and combat experience on this list. And his discipline puts him above Biscuit.
