After much anticipation and waiting, actor and producer Dan Levy’s latest crime comedy series, Big Mistakes, finally dropped its first season on April 9, 2026, and what an amazingly comedic and chaotic ride it proved to be.
Throughout the season, we saw the Dardano family go through their own ups and downs, with Nicky and Morgan putting their lives on the line to make up for the latter’s big mistake (pun intended).

And just when the viewers thought that the first season would end on a high note for the family, we come to know the true identity of Annette, the mother of Morgan’s boyfriend, Max, and how, despite looking like a side character, she turned out to be the big bad of the Netflix series.
Big Mistakes: Annette Zofrea Was the Criminal Mastermind All Along
Elizabeth Perkins in a still from Big Mistakes | Credits: Netflix After witnessing the massacre of Ivan and Andrei along with the entire Brazilian Cartel in Miami, Nick and Morgan return to their homes to finally lay to rest the past few days of their lives, filled with criminal odd jobs and doing a ton of coc*ine. But soon, they get a visit from Yusuf, who disappeared earlier in the season, now working as a henchman for the Italian Mob, whom Ivan was trying to f*ck over by going behind their backs to make a deal with the Cartel.
And after the escape, which was by skin of their teeth as well, both the siblings get respite in the fact that their mother, Linda, became the new Mayor of the town, partly thanks to the financial backing of Annette Zofrea, the mother of Morgan’s boyfriend, Max. And to celebrate the win, Annette hosts a party at her home, where, during the celebration, she invites Morgan up to her room to talk about her becoming Max’s wife.
But deep down, Morgan had already made up her mind to end things with Max, which she thought she could tell Annette about. But this is when the series takes a turn, as Annette implies that Morgan has no choice but to become her daughter-in-law. And as an engagement gift, she brings out the same necklace from a concealed safe in the walk-in closet that Morgan had stolen from Yusuf’s shop that got them into all this mess in Episode 1, titled ‘Get Your Nonna a Necklace’.
And in the next couple of minutes, it all starts clicking together: the financial backing by Annette, the reason why Morgan and Nick were the only ones spared in the massacre, and the presence of the Mob bosses at the party. Along with being in the business of real estate, Annette had many illegal businesses running in the shadows, and what we saw was just the tip of the iceberg.
In the final scene, the family photo with both families present feels more like a constant reminder of a sword hanging over the Dardano siblings and their mother rather than a photo commemorating the union of both families.

As the threat from the Italian Mob remained over Nicky, he decided that his boyfriend, Tareq, needed to be far away from him to avoid becoming a target for the mob. Which is why, despite the decision hurting him inside, Nick had no other choice but to send him alone on a cruise that they had been planning to go together for a long time.
On the other hand, Natalie finally dropped her ‘Perfect Child’ act and opened up about just how miserable she was with her partner, Kevin. She said her boredom and cortisol levels went through the roof when she was around him, which led her to advise Morgan to make the right decision and leave Max, something Natalie knew she was considering.
But the one who got the short end of the stick was Morgan herself, where not only did she find out that her soon-to-be mother-in-law was a criminal mastermind, but also had to marry Max against her will if she wanted to keep living.
