Kevin is a housecat who has never made a single decision in his life, until his owners split up and forced the question. Released April 20, 2026, on Prime Video, the eight-episode adult animated series follows Jason Schwartzman’s cat through a pet rescue in Astoria, Queens, where Whoopi Goldberg, John Waters, and Aparna Nancherla voice the misfit animals he ends up with.
Produced by Titmouse, Evil Hag Productions, and Amazon MGM Studios, and currently sitting at a 7/10 on IMDb as of April 21, 2026, Season 1 leaves plenty on the table. Here are the seven biggest questions, answered.
1 Is Kevin based on Aubrey Plaza and Joe Wengert’s real breakup?
Dan and Dana in Kevin | Credit: Prime VideoYes, loosely. When Plaza and Wengert broke up, their cats, Kevin and Howard, passively went with Wengert. Plaza, who also voiced Dana in the show, has said they both independently wanted to do a cat comedy, and Wengert was already doing stand-up about being a single guy with cats (via LA Times). He describes the breakup as “a significant moment” he wanted to explore, but a sad man reconnecting with friends wasn’t funny enough. A cat was going through it.
The real Kevin, for the record, was a homebody, not the window-gazing type. Wengert always felt bad for him: he could have been with Plaza, but ended up in a studio apartment instead. Howard, who died young, appears in the show as a tribute.
2 Will there be a Kevin Season 2 on Prime Video?
Jason Schwartzman and Aubrey Plaza | Credit: Prime VideoKevin Season 2 has not been announced yet. All eight episodes of Season 1 dropped on April 20, 2026, which means Amazon MGM Studios is just beginning to evaluate whether it will get a second run.
The finale leaves Kevin on a train, heading somewhere unknown, with no plan. There’s clearly more story to tell. Whether Prime Video picks it up depends on how Season 1 performs.
3 Does Kevin get adopted in Season 1?
No. Kevin spends a long time hoping Franny Rigatoni, a bartender he bonds with, will adopt him, and that hope peaks in the finale when a foster application comes in under the last name Rigatoni. Kevin convinces himself it’s her. He says his goodbyes, shows up at her door with all his stuff, and walks into what he believes is his new home.
But it wasn’t him. Franny adopted Paco, a parrot who had been at Furrever Friends the entire time, celebrating alongside Kevin and telling him exactly what was happening. Kevin just dismissed it as “his parrot thing.”
Ultimately, Kevin was never really an adoption story. His real journey was always inside Furrever Friends and figuring out who he is within the community he accidentally became part of.
4 Does Judy find love after Kevin leaves?
A still from Kevin | Credit: Prime VideoJudy spent the season convinced she and Kevin were endgame: Ross and Rachel, Jim and Pam. The problem is Kevin never saw it that way. When he leaves, her grief is real, but the relationship was entirely imagined. Cupcake steps in, asks Judy to describe her ideal partner, and gets a very specific answer: a jolly Santa Claus figure.
Cupcake dresses up as Santa and spends the day with her. Judy, genuinely, completely, believes she was with the real Santa. Season 1 ends with Cupcake gently convincing her to focus on her own happiness instead.
5 Does Armando give Michael a second chance?
Kevin and Armando | Credit: Prime VideoMichael shows up at Furrever Friends, claiming he’s alone now. The woman he chose over Armando eventually left him. But he also casually admits to cheating on her, which kills any remaining sympathy Armando had.
The confrontation does something more useful than reconciliation, though. Armando turns the mirror on himself, recognizing his own difficult behavior, particularly how he treated Patti LuPone, and chooses accountability. He apologizes, regains his professional standing, and receives credit for directing a highly praised musical. Michael came looking for a second chance, but Armando refused it and used the meeting to become a better version of himself instead.
6 Where does Kevin go at the end of Season 1?
Kevin‘s final scene | Credit: Prime VideoKevin’s destination is left open. He boards a train at the end of Episode 8. The only confirmed detail is that he’s leaving Astoria, Queens, behind. The season built one emotional connection outside Queens, Provincetown, where he and Franny first clicked at the adoption ceremony in Episode 7. He could be heading there, or somewhere else entirely. If Season 2 happens, this is likely the first question it answers.
7 Will Kevin return after leaving Furrever Friends?
Kevin (2026) | Credit: Prime VideoKevin left his owners to be independent, and then spent the entire season at Furrever Friends attaching to the wrong things. The finale is the first time he actually commits to the independence he claimed he wanted from the start. He told his rescue friends he needed time “alone-alone“, boarded a train, and left with no destination.
A cat who struggled to even fill out an adoption profile without spiraling is now deliberately choosing to figure himself out on his own terms. Whether Season 2 finds him on the road or back at Furrever Friends, that independence is Kevin’s whole journey.
