Before this, the Straw Hat Pirates mostly handled things on their own turf. Enies Lobby Arc flipped that completely, throwing them against CP9 agents who were faster, sneakier, and way better trained than anything they’d faced before.

Everyone had to step up at once, not just Luffy, and Robin’s rescue only worked because the whole crew synced up under real pressure. It’s less flashy than some later fights, but it’s where “nakama” stopped being just a nice word and became a battle strategy. It sits last here since the growth was more about teamwork than individual power spikes, which makes it foundational rather than climactic.

The Dressrosa Arc threw so many enemies at once that Luffy physically couldn’t cover it all himself. Zoro carved through Pica’s massive stone form on his own, Usopp found the guts to take down Sugar and free every trapped toy in the process, and Franky slugged it out with Señor Pink toe-to-toe.

Whole Cake Island Arc split the crew apart the second they landed, and that turned out to be the whole point. Chopper hit his Monster Point just to hold off Cracker’s endless biscuit soldiers long enough for backup to arrive.

Nami and Brook navigated Big Mom‘s territory without Luffy anywhere nearby, Pedro and Carrot risked everything for the crew’s escape, and Sanji had to choose between his birth family and the one he’d actually built. Nobody got through this arc leaning on Luffy alone. It ranks third because survival meant every Straw Hat working a different corner of the same crisis at once.

2 Wano Arc‘s War Forced Every Straw Hat To Push Past Their Limits

Wano wasn’t a one-man show, and honestly it might be the arc where the whole crew leveled up hardest. Yes, Luffy’s Gear 5 might have overtaken as the main highlight, but we really can’t forget the others in this arc. Zoro traded blows with King, one of the best Zoro fight scenes, on the burning rooftop, and came out the other side with a scarred future and a deadlier blade.

Sanji finally tapped into the body Judge built for him against Queen, leading to one of the best Sanji fight scenes. Robin and Kiku took down Black Maria together, Nami’s Zeus turned into a real weapon against Ulti and Page One, and Franky piloted an actual giant robot against Sasaki. It stays second because this was the arc where nearly every member, not just Luffy, found a genuine new gear.

1 Marineford Arc‘s Defeat Forced Luffy’s Crew Into Years Of Training

Losing a brother while also missing your entire crew – it was more than a simple devastation faced by Luffy. After Ace died at Marineford Arc, Luffy fell apart completely, and honestly, so did the story’s whole pace. Bartholomew Kuma had already scattered the crew across the globe, so there was no quick regroup, no pep talk from Zoro.

Just silence, grief, and two brutal years apart where every single Straw Hat had to rebuild themselves from nothing before they could even think about facing the New World together again. This tops the list because no other arc broke the crew down this completely before building them back up stronger.
