Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has candidly addressed ongoing rumors surrounding Adam Driver joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe, lightheartedly revealing that the actor’s rejection of MCU roles has become a running tradition. Speaking during an interview with Josh Horowitz on Happy Sad Confused, Feige acknowledged that Marvel has had continuous conversations with the former Star Wars actor regarding high-profile roles over the years. Feige said:
It’s no secret we’d like to [work with Adam]. But it’s a tradition to Zoom with him and then he passes. That’s a long-lived tradition. He couldn’t be more cordial. He is usually upfront about how he is feeling.
These comments arrive amid intense online speculation linking Driver to Marvel’s upcoming X-Men reboot, with fan rumors tipping him for iconic mutant characters like Magneto or Mister Sinister. Though Feige confirmed his admiration for Driver, no official deal has been struck yet.
Can Adam Driver Play Magneto in the X-Men Reboot?

Rumors recently circulated online claiming Driver was eyed to take on the mantle of Magneto, or possibly the sinister geneticist Mister Sinister. (Via GeekTyrant)
However, despite these rumors, Driver had not commented on his MCU voyage and had rather expressed his wish to be part of Star Wars. As per Variety, he said in an interview:
I always was interested in doing another ‘Star Wars.’ I had been talking about doing another one since 2021. Kathleen [Kennedy] had reached out. I always said: ‘With a great director and a great story, I’d be there in a second.’ I loved that character and loved playing him.
While Feige neither explicitly confirmed nor denied specific negotiations for the mutant reboot, Driver’s intense dramatic range makes him an ideal candidate for complex comic book antagonists. Whether Marvel finally breaks its rejection streak with Driver for an X-Men role remains one of the MCU’s most-watched casting developments.
Marvel Studios is gradually laying the groundwork for its full-scale Mutant Saga following Avengers: Secret Wars. While vintage X-Men characters are set to appear in Avengers: Doomsday, the standalone X-Men reboot will redefine the team for a brand-new cinematic era.
