007 First Light Ending Explained

007 First Light focuses on the journey of a younger James Bond in MI6. However, it still features everything you’d expect from a seasoned Bond adventure, including explosive action, globetrotting settings, iconic one-liners, and an ending that teases future outings. The game’s ending is filled with gunfights, betrayals, and revelations. With that said, let’s take a look at how the 007 First Light ending is set up and what happens in it.

What Happens in the 007 First Light Ending?

Before we get to the ending, here’s how it’s set up. It’s revealed that 009 isn’t the main antagonist of 007 First Light. Instead, it’s AI pioneer Sir Nicholas Webb and his son Damien who have been pulling the strings, while THEIA fed MI6 false intel, something that Webb covered up. Following this revelation, Bond is sent to Vietnam, where Damien captures him, but Greenway ultimately rescues him. After a fight, Damien falls off a building and is crushed under metal bars, while Greenway succumbs to his fatal injuries.

James Bond and Miss Roth, a.k.a Isola, infiltrate a Webb Industries R&D facility in Antarctica, where they learn about HYPERION, THEIA’s sibling AI, which Webb has been secretly using in a plot to overthrow the British Government. Bond successfully reaches the HYPERION core, where he and Sir Nicholas have a standoff. However, Isola kills Webb and takes the core, betraying Bond in 007 First Light.

Bond successfully catches her, taking her and the core back to MI6, but HYPERION is demolished. Both Bond and Isola are now locked up in London, but they’re released when MI6 is attacked by armed mercenaries aiming to get THEIA. He reaches THEIA only to find Damien in an exo-suit, holding Moneypenny hostage. After taking THEIA’s core, Damien stabs Moneypenny and leaves, before Q arrives and tells Bond to chase him through the tunnels.

Bond uses the weaponized Aston Martin Valhalla to stop Damien before engaging him in a boss fight. He successfully destroys Damien’s exo-suit and defeats him, ultimately killing him by drowning. Bond nearly dies after drowning with Damien, but is saved in the nick of time by Isola, who then takes THEIA’s core with her. Who Isola was working for remains unclear.

The ending cutscene of 007 First Light shows M and Bond visiting Greenway’s grave, where she notifies him that all charges against him have been dropped. With the mission far from over, Bond officially becomes 007 and happily obliges to track down Isola and find THEIA’s core. In traditional Bond fashion, 007 First Light ends with the classic gun barrel shot.

Does the 007 First Light Ending Set Up a Sequel?

007 First Light’s ending undeniably sets up a sequel where Bond tracks down Isola in search of THEIA’s core. Additionally, the words “James Bond Will Return” also pop up after the barrel shot, so a sequel is all but guaranteed to happen, which will feature Patrick Gibson’s James Bond in his first mission as Agent 007. M also talks about “an unseen hand operating in the shadows”, which further stirs the potential sequel pot.

With 007 First Light getting rave reviews and post-launch support also confirmed, it’ll be a while before we see Patrick Gibson’s Bond in a fresh, globetrotting adventure. After all, IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak confirmed in an interview with IGN back in 2024 that he hopes for a big James Bond trilogy in the future.

The classic gun barrel shot already indicates Gibson’s Bond turning into the seasoned James Bond that we know and love from the films and the books, and with his official 007 designation, it’s only a matter of time before we see where the sequel takes Bond into to find THEIA’s core and retrieve it from Isola.
