The late One Direction star Liam Payne was fun to hang with, as he proved in this old video. To celebrate 1D Day in 2013, the boy band member donned a turquoise and gold bodysuit to become The Payne Train in the wrestling ring. Payne faced off against WWE legend Kurt Angle and even managed to beat him in a wrestling match.

Before the match began, Payne shared that he had dreamed of becoming a professional wrestler. However, Angle teased the singer, sharing that his wrestling suit didn’t make him much of a wrestler. Payne’s bandmate Zayn Malik recalled that the Strip That Down singer showed him the outfit a week before the match, but he thought it was a party costume.

The fans gathered around must have thought for a moment that the small and lean Payne stood no chance against the big and bulky Angle. However, Payne showed his fans some cool moves, flipping around the ring and giving Angle a really tough time. Even Angle was shocked when Payne beat him in the match with a couple of quick moves.

Malik was stunned by the performance and commented, “It’s the first time I’ve seen him flip like that!”. However, his other bandmate, Louis Tomlinson, believed that it was typical of Payne. He looked strong and confident and Tomlinson shared that “he really showed that throughout the fight.”

Angle shared about his defeat to Payne, “It’s gonna haunt me the rest of my life.” Interestingly, the Olympic gold medalist knew of the boy band and even shared that he was a fan of them. Payne joked that Angle was lying and shared that he was probably an *NSYNC fan. Fans fondly remembered the fun interaction as they reposted this old video in the wake of the singer’s death (via X).
